Question about Koni yellows for front of a 92 prelude (brake line)
I purchased Koni yellows for a 92 prelude. I thought that you have to use your stock oem brake line bracket. Mine came looking like this. Most of the koni fronts i've seen comes with no brake line.
Looks pretty much like what I just pulled out of my fourth gen... Little metal tabs that hold the lines screw into the brackets on the shock... Um... What was the question again?
so i dont need to use my bracket from my oem shock correct? i read some info on here about people using their stock brackets off their oem strut. Again i've never seen koni front shocks with anything welded to the fronts. it usually looks like https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1285011. you can see on the bottom of the front shocks it has nothing no brake line or anything.

Yeh you would use your OEM bracket... It's not much of a bracket though, just a little bit of metal with a rubber grommet that the line fits in.. Bolts right up to the little tabs welded to the koni's, with the same bolt that holds the bracket onto you OEM shock.

1) If the shock comes with the brake line brackets, you do not reuse the stock ring. The shocks that have and "L" or "R" in the part number are Lefts and Rights because the inclusion of the brake line bracket makes them that way. Shocks that are not specifically sided like that can be used on either side and thus need to have the OE bracket used. The bracket are supplied on the 92-96 Prelude Sport shocks, the 92-97 Accord fronts and the 03-05 Accord/TL/TSX are all lefts and rights because they come with the bracket. The Prelude SP3 version that we make for Neuspeed do not come with the brackets so you would reuse them from the OE. The 97+ Prelude mounts the brake like not to the shock but to the upright so that is not and issue.
In short, if your car uses left and right side shocks then use the provided bracket. If not, use the OE bracket. Very simple.
2) Not all spring perches use lower rings, simply look at the underneath side of the perch and you will see that there is a groove on the bottom side to capture and hold the circlip. Until about five years ago, no front shocks had any rings at all and they all had bottom grooves. The spring ID on the 92-00 Civic/94-01 Integra is quite small leaving little room for the groove in the underside of the perch so Koni engineering decided to include a ring with the groove included. The other Civic, CRX, Accord, Prelude, and other car brand perches typically have a wider spring tail and spring perch so there is plenty of metal and room to have the groove in the perch. Look at the bottom side of your perch and you will see the groove. When the Prelude perch is installed just like the factory perch sits on the factory shock, the groove sits on and captures the circlip. No ring required.
