i think my A/C compressor went out while on vacation..........please give input
so i drive my 97 ek from jacksonville, FLA to Hilton Head SC. As soon as i cross the state line my a/c goes out ........so everything is ok, then about a mile down the road the car just stalls while doing about 70. Car cranks back up. Get to the island and small amounts of smoke come from the engine bay. We get to the house and the car is still running .....everything seems ok. about 20 minutes later the car wont crank.....it bogges and then cuts out. my cousin and i check out the car....i have him crank the car while im looking at the engine. The AC compressor is locked........soon followed by sqeals and smoke. I called some local shops and the estimate was around $ 1,200. what other options do i have simply to make the trip home? any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

yeah sounds like the compressor went. here at honda we would sell you a whole a/c system and its alot more then 1200. when a a/c compressor goes it will send metal through out the whole system. mostly the condensor and the discharge (high side) lines but we change everything as a saftey.
Im currently looking at replacing the stock motor with a Ka20-R. Where do you think i would be able to find the Best quality motor with the best resonable price??
If you need to make the return trip before getting it fixesd, just cut and remove the belt driving the A/C compressor.
I already went ahead and cut the belt and made the drive home ok. Now my priority is to drop the K series into the car. One of the ?'s that I have is how long can i drive the car in its current condition, and what do you recommend as far as the swap? I have spent countless hours on hybrid-racing.com reading forums and the specs of the K series. If there are any other recommendation I'm all ears!
i'm getting a grinding noise from my a/c when its on, i thought that the compressor had to be changed, but I thought that I could get another one from a junkyard.? im not familiar with a/c systems.
