Default Can't turn distributor any further.....

I got a new distributor a couple of weeks ago for my D15b and my timing is set half way between the white (TDC) and the red dots. The distributor is advanced as far as it will go.

Did I get a distributor that is internally "off a tooth"? Should I try to enlogate the slots or do I need to get a new dizzy?

are you sure you're not off a tooth on the cam timing?

Make sure your timing light is on number 1 plug wire.

you may want to check again. I was off one tooth on the exhaust cam only right after my swap, and I had the same problem.

The car runs perfectly, but lost a little low end after the distributor swap. I have a D-series, so only 1 cam gear.

Maybe while my brother was driving it, the belt slipped a tooth.

Wouldn't the car run weird if a D-series motor was off one tooth?

yes, your powerband would shift to either low end or high end power (and peak power probably will not be attainable in your rpm band). While mine was a tooth off, if I put the dizzy all the way towards the fire wall, it would run ok but if I turned it all the way towards the front bumper, the engine would die. Right in the middle, it would run but I didn't have any power. Does any of that sound like your problem?

That sounds similar to my problem, except that if I turn it all the way to the bumper, it still runs, just with no power.

I guess I'll check my cam timing next weekend.

Thanks for the tip!

Just to let everyone know, I have fixed my problem.

I checked my cam timing etc, and everything seemed fine, but I could still only get about 8* of timing.

Last night I finally took my distributor out and slotted the holes more so I can turn it farther. It worked like a charm.

FYI, this may be common (I'm guessing) when putting a U.S. distributor on a JDM D15B. Now I have a full 16* of timing and the car runs much smoother!
