White smoke at idle..
hi,
I my car seems to have a problem,
the CEL light randomly goes on while driving, the ecu blinks 1.. o2 sensor, and i get white smoke when i'm at idle and accelerating a little..
What i want to know if this white smoke is the cause of the o2 sensor.
The smoke isnt very visible during the daytime, but when teh weather is cold or at night time with lights shining on it you can see it clearly.
And its not condensation, because the white smoke still occurs after say 20minutes of driving with optimum temperature.
plz help

your burning coolent and f-ed up your O2. antifrezse just eats O2's
more than likely ur head gasget is leaking coolent in and the white smoke took out your o2.

i have that same exact problem and yea someone told me its the head gasket...so should i take it to a mechanic and how much am i expecting to pay to fix this problem...or is their a DIY fix for this
the thing is i havent topped up my coolent for about half a year, because it doesnt need to be topped. coolent is always there..
i just checked my coolent, green as, no oily colour watesover
checked my oil, clear brown still...(changed 200km's ago)

Very possible you have bad gas. I filled mine with bad gas, had diesel mix in the 93 pump, and my car would boil white smoke out at idle. Drained the tank and refilled it, after about 20 attempts at cranking, it finally crunk up and idled perfectly fine.
Other than that I'd say it was a headgasket too.

so there is no possibility it could be the cause of a faulty o2 sensor?
i was hoping that if i cleaned/replaced my o2 sensor, everything will be fine again.
I never skimp on fuel, using BP 98 octane, and aussie fuel is very good quality.
Is there anyway i can know for sure if its my gasket?

Have you smelled the smoke? It doesn't sound like its coolant, but it could be oil. How many miles are on your engine? Does it consume more than a quart between changes?

my engine just reached 209,000km's

when i got my head gasket done it cost some where around $650.00 for a $28.00 felpro head gasket, if you can do it yourself and you take your time it may take the weekend, but its do-able in an evening if you know what your doing.
Shop rates are killer expect to be around $70-$100 an hour depending on where you live and its rated at around 6 hours and it may be at the shop for more than a day as well really depends

I was overheating Slightly when it was hot out, but had good Compression, and only smoked once. I change my Head Gasket myself with ARP Head studs. I still smoke the odd time, too random to determine why, Car stays cooler then before the change. 180-190 in really hot weather with a trubo and 160deg Thermo. I still have great compression and no coolant/oil mix.
It is possible that when you cooling system is up to pressure and temp that you have a slight leak into you cylinder, not enough to loose compression or get an oil/coolant mix. The reason it smokes at idle is because your water pump is not circulating the coolant around alot, giving it a chance to leak by.
Try when you see it smoking to pull you rad cap of to loose the presure in you system. Careful. It will be hot!!!!! Use a rag over the cap. If it stop smoking this is most likely your problem.
