Replacement quarter panals or not... ?
My EH2 is in desperate need of some new metal in the quarter/rocker area. I was looking on http://www.crosscanadaparts.com and came across replacement parts for a decent price... but my problem is with the tack welds on the quarters. I can get the old panals off, but the rust has gone so far now that there would be nothing left to tack weld the new metal to. Should I get the parts and try, or just keep sanding it and putting more bondo every year? It's just my D/D, but I don't like looking at rust, and it's already been repaired a couple of times.

progress so far

I did this just to pass safety so there aren't any holes... so don't flame me for putting bondo over rust or whatever.

When i had my rear quarters replaced at the body shop the guy had to cut pieces to replace the inner fender behind the panel....he said the inner fender is normally rusted more than the quarter panel....I guess you are going to have to cut pieces to replace the rust so you can have something to weld to.

I wouldent have put bondo over rust, you are so close to having it all off anyhow just finish sanding and then bondo the thing that way you dont have to keep sanding it every year and watch your panels get smaller and smaller....
Like I said... I just did it for this week to pass safety so there are no holes. That's why I want to replace the panels. I guess I could replace what's underneath with sheetmetal when I get my welder.

Aren't panels welded like a seam, next to each other. Then, sanded down smooth?

yeah, I think the quarters are sandwiched to the wheelwells and tack welded on the lip. Yeah, I don't have any of that left.
