91 CRX auto to manual question?
Ok my mom friend want to get rid of here 91 crx dx she have for along time now. she dont want it in her drive way. its clean stock lookin crx.
anyways my mom ask if i want it and i was thinking if i get it how hard or pain in the butt to change it from auto to manual.
i want to convert it to 94-97 GSR motor manual.
all i could think of in the top of my head right now is.
order the whole gsr motor package with everything like ecu, axles, shift linkage etc..
then b series motor mounts.
shift boot.
shift ****.
the manual pedals or i might need a pair of used 3 pedals thinging.
and that pretty much it.
i believe any import performance shop could do the conversion but would it cost alot ?
what do u guys think? take the free car and convert it later or not take it. its free. runs good. well maintain lil car.
stock interior clean. only rip driver side seat but thats normal for old car. trunk cover still looks good and the lil latch over thingy behind the seat is good too.
hope u guys could help me out. i do have $2500 right now and within 2 or 3 months i should be able to save up and get like atleast $4000 or more for the conversion.
hope u guys could help me out thanks for reading.

it might be a better idea to look else were for a manual CRX. Or maybe for a shell or something. I have heard its really expensive and alot of hassle swithing from auto to stick.
just my input

auto to manual is easy, done it a few times myself. If you're buying a swap and mount kit with linkage, all you will need is the stuff you listed. I would think a shop would be able to get you a GSR in there and convert it for $4000. Depends on the area you're in. I'd drive it as is for now till you get all the money together.
You're lookin at $4000 (+/- $500) in parts basically.
Add shop time to that, lookin at $1200 for a good shop to do it. That's around how much i would charge. (actually we would be more like $1500, but you get what you pay for with that price.)
Consider a GSR swap is normally around $800-$1000 to have a shop swap, add another few hours for the manual conversion. not too hard.
http://www.rywire.com has a write-up we took from another site.
*many props to them, we wanted to preserve it is all - site was unmaintained, i think it's down now*

i just completed a auto=manual swap, other than the fact its running like **** from MPFI problems, it was really easy. The pedals is the biggest bitch, just make sure to drop the steering column for room, take off the rear mount and replace with manual rear mount, run clutch/throttle cables and bolt up shift linkage, wire a few things here and there and install a 5speed gauge cluster if u want.

I would have thought pricing for swaps into EFs would be a little cheaper these days, its no more than 6-8 hours of labor. I've done 2 swaps in a day before, with air tools, but no lift. Anyways, hunt around, you should be able to find GSR clips for around $2500, mounts and linkage for around $500 and the rest for $100-300. I guess its all who you know and where you live.

see the reason i want it is because its free. plus i have never see any crx in as good shape as this one. no accident, no rust, paint still look good. kept in garage . wash , oil change and everything. well taken car all around and with 3yrs of of paper work of every lil things. i mean my mom friend got older paper work but she pull out only 3yrs worth of paper and thats 2 binding complete with everything she repair and maintence stuff.
overall whenver i see a 88 -91 crx ( manual) for sale its all rusted, busted with accidents, salvage title, different color parts like hoods , fender, etc, and stripped out interior. so i was thinking of taking it for free.
anyways thinks for all the replies and looking at my post. i'll do some more research. she probably sale it if i dont want it. but i still have time to decide. again thanks for reading...

My auto to man swap took me a day to day and a half the **** was real easy since its a cable clutch. I agree the pedals are the hardest part remove the drivers seat and drop the column it should only take about 4 hrs at the most to get this done. I had alot of trouble getting my auto **** cable out so I just cut it. The rear motor mount is kind of a bitch, but I didnt have to move mine.
