Default OT: Lancer EVO VII at Chicago Autoshow.

I went to the Autoshow, and like the coolest car was the J-Spec EVO 7. Uggggggh.

I lost it on that one...Car is so sweet...Huge Brembos, FMIC...It's so small compared to pictures. Nowonder is weighs less than a Mitsu GSX. It makes that other Lancer look like the POS it is...Pics coming soon for any that want them. The guy told me next year...but well see.

Mitsubishi have announced January of next year as the release date.

However, I would not be surprised if they detune some of the life out of it for US consumption.

I think the feds should update their regulations. I think the "5 mph" bumper was meant more for the metal bumpers of the 70's.

I don't know...some one care to explain the reasoning behind the "5 mph" bumper rule?

Yeah. If someone taps your bumper in a parking lot, it shouldn't cause major body damage.

There are LHD EVOs.

It's offered in "Name your country thats LHD like us"

The reason that theres no LHD Skylines stock, is because they arent offered in any LHD Countries...

I guess I just always assumed that the EVO's were a JDM-only offering. For some reason I also tend to find myself thinking that we're one of the few countries that drive on the right, though obviously that's not the case.

Either way, I can't wait till the EVO reaches dealers.

Simple... The vehicle must sustain a head-on collision with a solid barrier at 5 miles per hour and maintain functionality... That is everything must operate normally on the car, lights, doors , windows, seat belts, mechanical..etc..

That way the car is still safe to operate and won't leave someone stranded...

The requirement is not for " no damage " like most people think, so that is why manufactures can paint their bumpers nice matching colors without worring about paint chipping and scraping off in a 5 mile impact..

now you know..

I guess its from somewhere in continental Europe.

Does anyone have any experience with Mitsubishi's Engine?
R they as reliable as Honda?

Back in 92, when my Dad finally decided that I should have my own car so I can be a better driver, the choices were: Honda Civic EX Carburator(Grand Civic as they call it) or Mitsubishi DanGan DOHC 16V Injection(JDM or Asian market only I think)...
We bought the Civic.. and eversince that day, I always stay with Honda..

Now the EVOLUTION is here.. I want to know if they are as reliable as Honda..
(I need a beater here! hehehe...)

The reliability of Mitsubishi and Subaru still have a gap compare to Honda, Toyota and Nissan. These 3 Jap Manufactures are still the best in Japan in terms of reliability. They are recognized as what they called "6 sigma" companies which mean every 2^16 = 65536 product (don't know if they refer to the parts or the entire car) they produce, there will only be 1 defective. This is back in the 80's, and of course they get better since then. However, Mit and Sube were still a gap away from the "6 sigma" back then, not sure about now though.

If you talk about those WRC rally car, Mit and Sub put extra effort to make those cars more reliable, it's not straight modification from those we can buy off the shelf. Though the basic frame may be the same, but extra re-enforcement is added.

Don't get me wrong, they are great cars comparing to world-wide car manufactures, but when you compare them with Honda, there is still a gap. but that will be an addition to my garage for sure.

No, the reason there are no LHD Skylines is because of the turbo placement on the engine. You cannot put the steering rack on the LH side due to the turbo and exhaust being in the way. Otherwise, they would have made a LHD Skyline.

Motorex has a LHD conversion for the Skyline from what I hear but I have very few details.

IT will definitely be detuned. Mitsu said, "at least 250 hp" which isn't very inspiring. They had also mentioned it being either the EVO VII or VIII. Latest rumors on Lancerforums.com is the VIII will be coming and the release date pushed back till the spring of '03.

Lots of hype and speculation, but no firm specs, dates, or prices from Mitsu so don't get too excited yet, it might turn out to be like the WRX

Mitsubishi have announced January of next year as the release date.

However, I would not be surprised if they detune some of the life out of it for US consumption.

I've decided to get one...pending the pricetag and how watered down they are when they reach US soil Mitsu dealers.

The ITR is a great car, but I could drive an EVO daily (AWD) and keep my hybrid for race/fun.

I'm leaning toward one too...we'll see...I like it better than the WRX. It has the 4G93 Motor so there will be an Immediate Aftermarket. By the time it comes out, I'll be ina position to get an EVO7 (Maybe) or a Supra...well hafta see about the price, eh?

Im not a really huge Mitsu-follower. But are they all going to be 4-doors? Not like it's a huge deal or anything.

V-dubs are bangin.
