Default 87' crx si?

I am thinking about purchasing 87' crx si. I just want to know some info about these cars. I currently drive a EG.

87' was the first generation?

What motors can you swap into it? Its the same as EGs?

I know it uses cable tranny but I know I would need something to change over to hydro.

How fast are these with a b16 swap? estimated 1/4 times?

Is there enough room for turbo or sc?

Im searching right now too Please post any other comments about these cars.

Nothing like Efs, Egs, or Eks.

They mount differently and smaller engine compartment compared to a EF.

http://www.redpepperracing.com specializes in 1gen CRXs and 3g Civics

As far as engine swaps go the biggest thing is the Distributor. The 1g is vacuum advance while newer motors are electronically advanced. Also the speedo (behind the gauge cluster) needs to be changed for VTEC to work properly.

To put a b-series motor in there it will cost about 1g for just the proper kit and axles and **** to get it to work. This is NOT including the motor itself.

A d16a1 out of a 86-87 Integra will pretty much just drop in and be plug and play. I will know for sure within the next 2 weeks

hopefully that helps.

If thats a rust free 87 Si for $750, thtas a very good deal. These cars are super light and it would be pretty quick with a D16a1 from the teg and a small turbo setup

The only probablem with the d16a1 (86-87, browntop) is that it is vacuum advance which means its harder to tune this type of motor when turboing it.

Like he stated if it is rust-free get it. They only weigh about 18-2000 lbs with full interior. (I am not totally positive on weight it could be less then 2000)

The d16a1 is a easy motor to come by and its always good to try new things

the 87 isnt the 1st gen and it would be harder to swwap a b16 into it.

It is rust free but I would love to swap a LS or b16 in there.

Its just that vacuum type of motor.

Since the gauge cluster needed to be modified for VTEC, a LS would fit perfectly in there.

So if I get it, it would cost $1,000 just to get thigns running right for the b18 and the b16s .... hmmm

word

In order to run b16 or b18 in there the mount alone are going to cost from 500-600. Axles are going to cost a little bit. Now you have to do a crazy amount of wiring. You'll 1gen Integra front knuckle assembly, and you most likely will want to upgrade your torsion bars... what torsion bars? Yes torsion bars.

The suspension of the 1gen is different then the 2gen. the first generation runs torsion the back has a solid beam with a panhard along with shocks and coils.

hope that helps.

I woudl say get it!! Be different man. Don't be discouraged.

Then again you can always make your own mounts or find someone that makes them for cheaper. The axles are a must though. You have to special order them.

you think a shop is willing to do this? I know I can probably get it cheaper than $750.

Then you add another $1000 for swap purposes. I want it to be different but I dont know if it is worth the trouble.

When you speak of torsion bars...these are suspension mods right?

EDIT: torsion bars on your front springs..or near it

EDIT 2: thanks for your help and your avatar is giving me nightmares.

torsion bars are the stock suspension up front. Instead of coil springs they utilize torsion bars. (which twist rather then bounce). yes I would highly recommend getting torsion bars up front to hold the weight better.

I am sure shops will do it not sure how much a swap would cost though. Probably more then usual swaps but less then a h22 or kseries in it.
