i would say to look for one without an internal amp as those will typically be designed with the best SQ as the primary goal. whats your budget though as thats the biggest deciding factor.

try to find a head unit with 4v preouts such as the alpine cda 9835 or cda 9815. i see some on ebay now and then, imo the best decks for 300.

the original msrp of this deck is $1800. i am willing to let it go for $400 shipped. used for about 2 months immaculate condition

Consider Eclipse too. Very clean 5v preouts, at least on all the models that start with the number 5. A salesman told me they actually eliminate some of the protective circuitry to keep it clean. Just make sure you don't touch an RCA to any ground metal when the power is on.

that is what im talking about.

here is the specs and small amount of info.

If you consider yourself an audiophile, then you have no doubt heard of Rockford's famous Platinum 2000 series head units. These instruments were created to provide the absolute best sound quality possible in a vehicle, with a cost-no-object design philosophy. Starting with ultra high-end 20-bit D/A converters, each component is hand selected for sonic purity and tight tolerances. Grab a hold of the heavy, metal alloy volume **** and you'll know you're not dealing with a mere "CD player." The RFX8250 features balanced outputs, dual 5V RCA preamp outputs, and an auxiliary input. An auxiliary coaxial digital input can accept an outboard digital source, such as DVD. Full copper plating on the chassis helps reject outside interference and even the preamp outputs utilize fully shielded cables with metal RCA barrels. The front faceplate is solid aluminum alloy with a platinum finish for an understated elegance, and the button illumination color can be switched from green to red. This deck is ISO-DIN (side) mount only, so a custom bracket will be required to install in many domestic vehicles. High-end outboard amplification is required.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase Rockford Fosgate's crown jewel source unit. Hurry, supplies are limited!
