Default Q about valve cover gasket

I'm going to be replacing my valve cover gasket in the morning, and I was looking over the chilton for my engine and noticed it says "7. Apply a liquid non-hardening gasket sealant, such as Honda sealant part No. 08718-0001 or 08718-0003 to the valve cover side of the spark plug opening seals and press them into the valve cover."

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me what this liquid is and if I can get it at autozone or somthing instead of Honda. Also what is it talking about when it says press them into the valve cover?

All help is appreciated, I'm a noob at car repair, I just want to make sure I get this right the first time.

Another question jumping off of this one, could anyone tell me if it's worth it to get a breather oil drain can or whatever it's call. My breather is shooting oil all over my manifold with a breather filter on.

Thanks again for any help.

The gasket sealer is called HONDABOND, and it is the best you can get. I would suggest using it. It cost more, but you get what you pay for. I don't think you can get it at autozone. When you turn the cover over you will see the groove where the sparkplug gaskets go. put a bead of hondabond on the gaskets and press them into the grooves. I would also put some on the cover gasket too. Valve cover bolts (nuts) tighten to only 7 ftlbs. (easily snapped off, if tightened too much).

By the way, are you getting oil in the spark plug holes? That can be a much more complicated problem. (O-rings under rocker arms)

I used Red RTV High Temp Silicone Gasket Maker and had no problems with it.

I went ahead and replaced the gasket without, I actually found what was causing the leak in the first place, there was 2 grommets that wern't built for my valve cover, I replaced all of the grommets except for the spark plug grommets which are the main reason to use that "Hondabond" I'll go back later and replace them properly and apply the Hondabond to the valve cover gasket and replace the spark plug grommets with hondabond or ultra flange.

Thanks for the info.

As for the 7 Ft lbs, working on an aircraft has given me a calibrated wrist so I was able to get what I feel was 7ft lbs.

Spring boarding off of this, I found somthing interesting while pulling the valve cover off. (I have an H22A4) There's a hose that comes off the back right corner of the valve cover, for some reason it's not hooked up to anything, I was thinking it's supose to go to the intake manifold to supply a vaccum, but I wanted a 2nd opinion before proceeding to replace it with a longer hose and removing a vaccum plug from my golden eagle to hook it up.

Once again, I appreciate the help.
