Default HELP: Edelbrock B16 kit --- car wont boost

Hey guys,

I helped a buddy of mine install the B16 Edelbrock Turbo kit on his Si a few weeks ago.
The car wont boost the way it suppose to.....

If we road test the car... the car will hit 4-5psi at 7000rpms.

We double checked all the vacuum lines and IC piping and couplers. OK

Tomorrow we are going to remove the DownPipe and inspect the flap on the internal wastegate. I am not sure what else could be causing the problem? I will try to pressurize the system with a bicycle pump or electric air pump tomorrow and see if the WG opens or moves.

Has anyone else had trouble with the Edelbrock kit?
This isnt my car, so if it were me I wouldnt have bought the kit.....

But Im trying to help out a friend solve his boost issues.

Anybody have similar problems or ideas please feel free to chime in! thanx.

a buddy of mine has this kit...it's really nice to install...i like the IM it comes with...dual row fuel injection.....his has never had a problem with boost...ur problem sounds like the wastegate.....do you have the WG act....vacuum line hooked up near the turbo..if so relocate it to the intake mani..if that doesnt work ...check the seal on the inside of the turbo...good luck.....oh ya...that kit is a little expensive for the power you get from it...but fit and finish its a COMPLETE kit everything you need's comes with it and fits very well...well at least in the kit i got..only took a half day to install

Unfortunately we were missing a key fuel line and a water hose coupler We just bought them locally than have to wait a week for Edelbrock to ship them to us.

I dont like the way the VictorX manifold sits so low down in the engine bay? its kind of a waste of space above it. IT makes it very difficult to swap or troubleshoot extra injectors and harness under there.

IMO the edelbrock is too big for a b16 unless you have massive amounts of boost. I have the victor x edelbrock and i dont see full boost till 6200 rpm or so and i start building boost right around 2500 but it just builds slow. i hava a brand new turbo and a new wastegate too and it still spools slow so that leaves me to believe the edelbrock is designed for people with 3 inch all around. anyone else have experience with this?

Well.... we isolated the problem to a slight gap in the IWG flap. it seems that the flap was not completely sealing. We tested it by bending a coat hanger and attaching that to the Flap hinge. We then pulled it closed and tied the other end of the coat hanger to the Power Steering pump. we revved the car a few times and sure enough the car built boost very fast. it jumped from -20PSI to 0 in a blink of an eye and we sustained a few 5-6psi spikes by just revving teh car in neutral.

Prior to this test we could not build more than 2-3psi max in neutral, no matter now hard we tried.

I took off the Wastegate and dropepd it off at m fabricator to have him cut the actuator rod and thread it to make it adjustable, so that we can shorten and lengthen the rod legth to keep the flap securely closed while there is no tension on the WG spring.

Hopefully this fixed the low boosting problem.

i just replaced my wastegate and also ran open DP. and it still builds boost slowly. do you think my turbo is too big? its a t3/t4 from a friends turbonetics kit for his prelude. he says its the same size as what i had before.

my setup is b16 block
b18 head
arp headstuds
inline pro 3 layer headgasket
could my compression be too low?

OK installed new adjustable rod equipped wastegate and the car drives like a champ!

FYI.. if ur edelbrock kit is lacking power .... tighten up that WG flap!
