Default an R's best friend

I have a 8500 in the truck which I drive more and like because I can turn the X band OFF, but the V1 is the best countermeasures I have ever had!

A friend has the bell and it's kind crappy IMO.

I know about that "" first hand! My tickets were 4-times that amount of the V-1!

I love mine.....but I can say..it won't detect Laser too well,
This is not the fault of the V1....it detects laser better than others!
Your best chance is with the V1.

I've only got one ticket with V1...laser.
You still have to drive smart..i.e. slow down around corners!

That test is old news. Since V1 "declined the invitation" to participate that test was basically a battle for second place. V1 has since come out with their new smaller, lighter, and improved model. I purchased my first V1 about a year ago. I think the new model came out 3-4 months ago. The Ka reception is much improved. Both the V1's size and ka reception were the main areas where radar test reviewers were giving poor remarks to the V1. But now since they have improved all of these areas it's a clean slate. Anyone read the radar test in Car and Drive a month back? V1 trounced everything, not to mention nothing else out there offers the arrows that work so well.

Sorry if I come off as an elitist with this post - they are just my opinions. While the V1 is not cheap I believe you can't find another detector that works better.

It looks almost identical to the older one. The new one is 1/4 of an inch thinner, which does not sound like a lot but you really notice the difference when it's up on your windshield. The new one is 4-5 ounces lighter.

It's interesting that V1 does not make any mention of the new model unless you visit the upgrade section AND type in your V1 serial number.

I read the Car and Driver article...the V1 smoked everything...and that seemed like a pretty real world test to me if you read the whole article.

SpeedZones

I don't care, go out and buy another brand rated best by speedzones...I'll wave when you're pulled over!!

Why not get the Passport 8500? It beat Valentine One in every test. Plus it's alot cheaper too.

Did it beat it in every test in Car and Driver?..NO!

So you have two tests saying diff. things. Most of us here have V1's and love them. It's your money though..and if you trust SpeedZones...then roll with a Passport 8500.

The Passport 8500 was ranked 1st in RadarTest.com, Speedzones.com, Automobile, and Motor Trend. In another magazine, the V1 was ranked 3rd. So i dunno, i just thought the 8500 was a better buy. By the way, the 8500 was right behind V1 ranking 2nd in Car And Driver. Also, the 8500 is a new model, so i doubt many people have it already.

I agree...it doesn't sound too bad. And for the price savings...it might be a good deal to go with.

It just seems that for all us **** "R" owners who want top of the line stuff...only a V1 is good enough to sit on the windshield.

Probably nothing to bad with the 8500 though..

That settles it... Must have one of each...

Did anyone read the C&D years ago where they raced Car Vs Plane? They had 2 or 3 detectors, a police scanner and a passenger with binoculars in the Ferarri 456 that they used and I think the plane beat them by 9 minutes over a distance of a couple of hundred miles... Wish I could find the article. Dayum

Best radar detector: Not speeding on public roads!

This help to avoid tickets and raises in insurance premiums...besides accidents most of the time.

I lerned the hard way. I have had those "advanced" radar detectors and they always cought me anyway (they're not 100% safe). Besides, you don't enjoy your trip because you have that ulcer from worrying about cops traying to nail you.

Now, I speed but, on a race track; the place meant to do so.

Eric- who knows it sounded like your "pain in the but" father's advise...

This is what happens on long trips...worrying about cops..
Then there's the other times...nice sunny day...open road..no one around..
How can you responsible people not want to just...fly!
Even if you don't you can't tell me you don't want to.

To me there isn't anything I'll trust other than the K40 Undetectable. I put my life on the real world results results of that one.

I have one but to me it's un-usable..Unless your on rural highways, the thing is constantly going off..The only thing it accomplishes is making me constantly slow down..And that's not why i bought it...

Your advise is sound, but does not eliminate the need. Some folks are better off being reminded to do a speed check when it REALLY matters.

Anyway, like my Grandmother always used to say, "You're just a victim of circumstance if you get a ticket". (cause everyone does it.) IF you dont agree, your living in a different gallaxy than me.

WRT, magazine articles, the 8500 lacks the threat evaluation capabilities of the V1. This makes it about 50% less useful IMO.
