we'll i am getting this huge surge in idle every now and then only when the air temperature outside is hot. my idle will jump from about 800 to 4500 rpm after the car is warm and has been running for a bit. then after a thirty minutes drive with high idle it will settle back down.
so i figured if i block off the iacv this might solve the problem or tell me that i would need to replace my iacv?
so what it is yo? what are you guys using that have done this... i know some of the guys that are using aftermarket manifolds are doing this. so spread the wealth.

if u block it off then ur car wont be able to keep up an idle when the motors cold. u'll need to keep on the gas or it will just stall out.
just buy a new one from honda & replace it.

well i could spend a wad of cash on it and find out thats its not the problem but i figured it would be the cheapest way. i think i meant restrict rather than block off.
i could borrow a friends used one but then i would have to find someone thats willing to let me use it for a week or so because it doesn't always happen it depends on the weather.
oh and others that do block theirs off usually just open up the idle screw so it wouldn't shut off.

wehn i blocked it off ont eh h22 in my accord the car would stall everytime the ac was on or everytime the alternator was under a higher load. that was with the screw all the way out for idle control...and then when there was no ac in use and no load ont eh alternator it would idle very high.
the only cars i block off the iacv are ones that dont run a stereo or ac at all, and are pretty much designated performance cars.
to block it off you can use a piece of cardboard or gasket material between the valve and manifold...

Lets try not to confuse this guy. FortunateFool is confused, what he means is the Fast Idle Thermo Valve(FITV). The temp-sensitive wax can back out and needs to be screwed in again, just search for fitv and find the write up on that, it might be part of your problems.
Also, I have both my FITV and IACV blocked off using gasket material. my car idles waaay better than it did, i had the searching idle while cold, then it idled high when it was warm. Now it idles a little low, around 600-700 when I start it cold, but doesnt stall. Idles at around 900-1000 after it warms up. the idle adj screw is almost all the way closed too. No problems blocking it off here

yeah i was thinking about just covering up my iacv.. is there a lot of pressure that would cause that sealer to go inside the iacv? if i can just use that gasket in a can crap i think that's what i'm leaning too
