Default Acura is giving me a new block.. wtf?? *OIL CONSUMPTION THREAD*

Well,

Warranty rules.. they are giving me a whole new block, they figured my engine eats to much oil in their consumption test! (I had it TOPPED OFF, and today my dipstick didnt even READ NOTHING! after 1000kms!!!)

What is a new block consist of? im a newbie here... is this a whole new engine practically? if someone can exactly let me know , id appreciate it!

Cheers

umm....ask em...if they just mean block (which i doubt they would give you that an re-use your pistons) then its just the aluminum casting without all the internals. if they meant "shortblock" that refers to the motor with out a head on it.

So wait, the block is the casting where it all sits inside? wtf use is that or would it have to do with my oil consumption??

shortblock is all the internals? pistons?valves? headgaskets, rings.. Thats what i would need , right?

Im stumped!

Thanks Reid.

I'm kinda warry abuot the whole situation abuot having a rebuilt engine! how reliable is this going to be, comparing a mech in japan and some canadian tech... i guess authetic build versus rebuit.. *you get the idea..*

So can anyone explain why i'm eating alot of oil and how these parts are giong to help the matter?

Will i basically have a NEW engine that will last me alot longer than my current one, will it perform better being new?

Thanks guys!

PS- When its done, i guess i shuol get them to do a compression/leakdown and a dyno to make sure its pulling strong ?????? Argh!!!! this stinks

The engine will not be "rebuilt". The shortblock will be delivered to Acura preassembled. The techs will simply swap your existing head, transmission, and all other related parts onto the new shortblock.

Your rings are leaking, if you break in the new engine properly you will not have problems with rings. Do a search to figure out which method of break in you will use, as there are many different schools of thought.

The performance of your engine will be the same.

let me get this straight. you had crazy oil usage and now Acura is giving you a new shortblock and rebuild for free and you say "this sucks"?

Thanks once again Reid. Sounds good.

Unfortunately I am the 2nd owner, otherwise the car would have been definetly broken in properly/ or maybe not as abused?

SlapMack: The situation sucks yeah. I'm not going to say i'm happy about it? im obviolsy gracious about the repair and what they are offering me. but im entitled to that anyway.

1) Be happy about it, you have a new motor (basically!)
2) How would the situation be any better?

Consider yourself very lucky that a dealership is willing to take this under warranty.... It has been my experience that dealerships try to use every excuse in the book to imply the problem is a result of user mistreatment. I have dealt with various dealers in Toronto regarding my R and have never had a good outcome.... I find it especially rare that they are willing to provide a solution even after you mentioned you are the second owner. What’s to say the owner of the car prior to you was a real moron and did not properly break-in or even maintain the car. How can Acura be expected to be on the hook, if the first owner decided to redline every shift with 10 K on the motor….

If I where you I would not make any waves at the dealership. Have them fix the problem and smile as they do it.

Can I ask which Acura dealership is providing this service?

man you are lucky, i can't even get them to fix my synchro under warranty, it feels notchy, and they want 110 just to diagnose the problem, and than they'll say its user related. so i'd really like to know which acura your going to.
