Stock 1992 MR2 or 1988 CRX Si - 1/4 mile? 0 - 60? etc.
First post here:
Basically, to sum things up, i am a twin. My twin and i are pretty f'ing competetive so when he got his 1992 MR2 i had to get something. I ended up getting my older brothers 1988 CRX Si (ex ITA) race car. One seat, full roll cage, Supertrapp exhaust, etc.
My question is as follows:
Which car is faster - from a stop, rolling, etc.?
So far my car outhandles his like nothing, i know that for a fact. I have nothing on him from what i have heard besides that.
He has not got his licensce yet due to a DMV technicality. For that reason we cannot test these things out ourselves. The MR2 is non-turbo and all stock for the record. My car is gutted and (engine-wise) i only have the exhaust and intake set up at this point. Headers and cat bypass will be installed soon.
Thanks to anyone who helps!

u still got the stock d15 engine?
u dont just make a car go faster if u slap on some exhaust and intake to make it sound better

w00t for people my age
well a Si stock has a D16A6 and they are kinda quick stock, with mods and a good driver can get mid 15s and faster. The MR2 on the other hand I have no idea

Well I'll help you out.
1st: The mr2 is going to be alot better than your car from a dig, unless it's a stick and your brother can't launch.
2nd: I'm pretty sure that the mr2 has a faster quarter mile time.
I've ridden in the 1st gen mr2 and the thing is light and quick, well quicker than a crx si.
But it all comes down to the drivers of the vehicles.

it should be pretty comparable. both cars handle great, and run about the same 1/4s,so should be even.

it really all depends what motor it is too. 1992 mr2 na or turbo? the turbo 3sgte will probably beat you, its an east 160 to the rear wheels, but the 5sfe (the na) is iffy, you probably win if its na. the mr2 is the dream turning car with the mid engine and close to 50/50 weight distribution. most ppl who drive mr2s dont really worry about their 1/4 time, but the 3sgte will win.
First off, Bjorn20 - i dont know if you meant to sound like a dick or not with your first reply. I listed what the car had engine wise (that i was aware of). I'm new to Honda's in general. I got my CRX from my older brother. I mentioned the parts that were added on to the engine just in case they would happen to make the car go faster than the stock CRX Si would.
Either way, thanks for all of the replies. The MR2 is N/A. My car has GAB shocks and some Ground Control stuff thrown in as well. I'm getting the whole parts list soon. My brother is a decent stick driver. I have my driving down a bit better than him (imho).
Thanks for all of the info and please keep it coming!

The 2nd gen MR2 N/A are total dogs, they lack the power that the turbo version provides oh so well. They're also a lot heavier then their first gen counterpart, an all around larger car.
Don't let that fool you though, being a mid engine rear wheel drive with 50/50 weight distribution car means they launch much better than a stock front wheel car ever will. A lot of people on here compare a mid engine launch to a near equivalent all wheel drive launch, provided the driver knows his stuff. In other words, you gonna get chewed up and spit out if you go from a stop.
From a roll you should be able to hang or beat him, but its pretty much a driver race.
As for handling I don't know very much about the setup of the 2nd gen MR2, just that they carried over the trademark over-steer of the 1st gen MR2. If its anything like the 1st gen however, the handling is in the awesome department. The MR2 is the Crx's arch-nemesis.
The MR2 has higher limits in its handling, its more dependent on the driver, the bad news is that once the MR2 has passed its limits, its usually game over for the car, it'll usually end up in an embankment, a ditch or a field.

RWD= Little Traction issues. Rear Mounted motor. Less Drive Tran loss.
FWD= Traction issues, Same Drive Tran loss as a Rear mounted motor.
MR2 Light. BUT they also have shity transmissions. If he doesnt miss any gears.
He will eat you.

If your CRX is an SI is gutted, that might help you out. I'm sure you will at least hang or give the NA MR2 a good run.
Good launch and you might just be able to take him. NA MR2 doesn't come with LSD. That's a plus for you, but then again his is MR. So that will give him some traction back too.
Overall the NA MR2 isn't all that quick. You have a chance.

This guys has a ex ITA Crx the fastest of which in the country can run a low 15 in the quarter mile.
ITA = Road racing prep CRX its going to very light with final drive,LSD and some decent bolt on power adder. IT would kill the MR2 in striaght line, and it own in the turns hands down, these are the best ITA cars you can do(2gen integra seem to do well on tighter tracks). HTe MR2 is in ITA to and it cant beat the rex if the drivers are equal.

Awesome, thanks for all of the replies guys. I really cant wait to race him now! I <3 my CRX and i will love it even more if i can push it in my bro's face that he got killed by a cheaper car.
Here are some pics of my baby:

I'll get some pics of his up soon

Ronin150: I'm installing an air horn soon. I had a Jeep SUV go from the right most lane in the leftmost one with me in the middle 2 weeks ago - scared the **** out of me. I was on it and i moved quickly but its still sucks. I shouted though.
The air horn will be louder than hell so it should be pretty hillarious as well as safe.
Opey: I took pics after an interview i had so the hanger was waiting for my dress shirt!

that is a myth. while toyota did change the suspension a bit for 93+ mr2s because of idiots who dont know how to drive rwd. the mr2 is not just some out of control over steer machine. its pretty natural that the tail wants to switch ends when u let off the gas in turns bein rwd with that much weight over the rear, any idiot with a competant knowledge of how to drive rwd stands a good chance fo never getting into that situation.
but yeah na mr2 not a drag car, the best they do is a low 16 1/4 stock, it would take some strong driving to get a win against your crx and some terrible driving on your part if the 15 second 1/4 mile is true.

yeh well did you look at the car or just the decals? because what i saw was a no-**** race car that happens to be driven on the street.
and did you stop to think that maybe some of the decals are on there because the car was sponsored? and even if not, what's wrong with displaying some of the brands of components that your RACE car has? why do ricers like stickers so much? because they wish their cars were RACE cars (which always have many decals)so they put stickers on to make their RICE cars racy.
edit: and the biggest decals are the numbers, which are REQUIRED for the class that car raced in.
