Default cuting short throw smaller?

i have just ordered a short throw shifter off ebay.Come to find out it dosent even come with a shift ball.Has anyone ever cut their short throw and put a regular ball on it? one thing i dont like how long they are and another thing im not spending 30$ on a ball.So if anyone has done that let me know how it worked.Does it look good? does the regular ball ever slip off? Hit me up if you got any suggestions or pictures.

Most don't come with a shift **** (ball?) I would drive it before you cut into it. Sometimes the longer shift can be more comfortable that a really short one.

besides the fact that the el cheapo ones snap...I had an APC one snap...on a moderate shift... a buddy had a no name ebay job bend to the point of snapping. He noticed it right in time. so yeah I'd say there something wrong with APC or Ebay ones...for a couple of bucks more you can get a decent one...and not have to worry

I second that... Cheap alluminum shifters are junk... they last for a little while but picture where the exhaust sits... Right below the shifter... Drive it for a half an hour and grab the actual shifter one time... It gets pretty hot... not hot enough to burn you but think of how weak alluminum is when its room temp... Now heat it up and think of how weak it is...

You probably paid 30$ shipped or thereabouts for your cheap shortshifter. Like everyone else is saying you should've looked in a few more payphones so you could get the extra 15$ to get a B&M. I believe I got mine a month ago from a local shop for 45$. Last thing I want is my shifter breaking in half. Well other than my brakes going out or being castrated or my car getting stolen!

my "cheapo" one lasted about 4 years then snapped. lol. it withstood lots of abuse. i guess i got lucky. another thing, i figured someone would of posted this by now but you guys havent. a "shirt shifter" isnt really any shorter than a normal shifter, what the shifter does is change the location that the linkage shifts at. if you set a stock one net to a shortshifter you will see that the ball on the shifter it pivots on sits higher on the shorshifter and the actual mounting point of the linkage is lower. so NO cutting your stock shifter wont equal a short shifter.

also, how do you rethread a shifter. what do i need , i broke mine and still drive it like that but id like to rethread it and have my shifter on there nicely

yea there is really no point of getting a ebay shifter when a neuspeed or b&m shifter is only probably 15 or 20 more dollars
