I walked down the Foo Civic at VIR today!
Roger was not driving
I believe the rumored soon-to-be owner Grant Lockwood was driving. It was obvious following him he was learning the track and was very new to the car. But it still counts, right
BTW, Roger I believe was clocked at a 2:17 around VIR. That's a good ITS time. And the car was still on the Speedvision spec Toyo T1-S street tires...
Edit: That car is really really fast in a straight line. Only Corvettes, Mustangs, and other similarly fast-in-a-straight-line cars have ever walked away from me that easily on the straights.

Do all the WC cars run those tires? Those guys are amazing if that is true. The DuPont BMWs are freakin quick (the only WC cars with whom I've shared the track).
Glad to see you guys are having a good time!
He hit the tire wall. Hard. Did a tank slapper and sent 100 tires all over the place. This happened right in front of us and we both had to use some emergency avoidance training. The drive walked away, but the car......
There's a NASA enduro going on this morning, so no reason to be at the track untill 11:00.
yeah we got to see that Porsche smack the wall first hand, Porsche didnt get as much damage as I thought it would have. I lost it in almost the same place in December, but I just went both feet in and rode it out, probably kept me from hitting the wall
. the ECHC was pretty cool, it was fun seeing them dice it up

I thought they were running the RA1 Toyos, not T1S. Can someone confirm this with certainty?
both classes race on Toyo T1-S 5/32 (half tread) on dry and 8/32 for wet. FYI a new set come with 10/32. they are an off the shelf street tire. the only difference between the WC and the retail ones is that the WC ones are branded. Toyo does this in an effort to prevent someone from trying to warranty the tires under a "premature wearout" claim.

Overall excellent day. Only problem came when I was chasing the Foomobile. A rather fast 911 passed us both and then lost it going into snake. Those of you who know this track also know there's not much room to go off there and not hit the tire wall.
hey matt, it's john tatum, with the 01 Yellow R, you instructed me at the Dec. speedtrials event. was this the same place that i almost lost it? sounds like it to me, yikes.
Yeah, that's the place
BTW, I was at Charlotte the weekend after Speedtrial in December and the same photo people were there. The picture of you coming out of Oak Tree was one of their displays. Nice shot!

During the Endor this car clocked the fastest lap time 2:16:474 of any of the cars running at the end of the race, Criag Gelston in his corvette was running 2:13's but of course he was on race tires of some sort, also he hit the gators hard in turn 5 and knocked his front fender off ending his day.. he had just about lapped the field. but oh well.

haha, i think it also may have been my inexperience that saved my butt as well, i didn't know what it felt like to know the car was losing it. so i just kinda punched the gas when i heard you say we were going to, thank god i didn't put a bigger rear bar on like i had planned!

maddmatt what does your car run at VIR?
Not terribly fast, but it is full interior and a car I have to drive home.
I've never been timed. Last December I was a 2ish seconds off of Shultz's pace, so I think that puts me on the upper 2:20s (Like 2:28, 2:29?).

I think I was faster this past weekend than I was in December though. Simple math...
No interior
+ Dont have to drive it home
+ On a mission to catch the rest of the exhibition group (got out late)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
= Faster
And he's on street tires and ten dollar pads at that. I hate that.
). But last December when we ran together somewhat I had actual sticky tires and brake pads that cost significantly more than $20.

And Karl, I don't know what anti-confidence pill Giles made you swallow but you sure as chit didn't seem to have any problems walking down anything out there. Now I am starting to think Shultz was the one who has been sandbagging
Quote of the week: "She wants to ride with someone who isn't you" --blk&tan, on his wife (who I scared chitless in the uphill esses)
Also my favortie quote was Grumpy "Racing cost the same now as when I did it, it takes everything you have"
OK...the story of Travis' wife. She came up and wanted to ride in my car. So I got her strapped in, and told her, "if you get scared and want me to bring you in, tap me on my leg." So we do the out lap and she's smiling and giving me the thumbs up.
In retrospect, I should have known that if she's smiling during the out lap...we're in trouble.
So I turn it up to full tilt. Got out of the uphill esses at a tremendous rate of speed - near the top of 4th...and I couldn't get the car back track right for south bend. Those of you who know the track also know that I couldn't exactly hit the brakes at this time, that would spell disaster. So I just turned in early and floored it.
Apparently South Bend can be done without braking in an H3 car on Hoosiers. But I don't ever want to do it again. It scared *me* a little bit but it was actually quite fast.
Immediately after the car settled down...she's wailing on the side of my leg. We round oak tree and she starts cursing at me and telling me that I'm phawking insane. Shaking so hard I thought she was faking it.
It was priceless
(Sorry Travis...)
