Default Painting for newbies

I'm in the process of replacing my cracked/bent fenders on my CRX and my buddy says he has a paint gun he'd let me use..

so now I just need the materials. I guess my questions are:

How much paint will I need for two fenders? How about a hood?
What thinner/hardeners do I need to get the factory gloss look?
Where do I get these materials?
What do I need to do to prepare the fenders?

This car was repainted onyx (normal) black by a previous owner, so I don't need to worry about using Honda paint. I'm not too concerned about matching the fade on the car.

Base clear.. Thats what i would use.

Straighten the fenders as best as you can by hand or with hand tools, clean down to metal where filler required. Use a GOOD fiberglass short haired filler, fill the dent. Sand with 40 to get straight, then go up to 400 wet.

Primer with 2 part epoxy, primer should be grey.

1 coat, sand with 400 wet, check to make sure straight, add plastic filler as required. Reprimer and sand with 400 till straight and perfeclty smooth (no sanding scratches)

Paint.. Well, get a gloss black base
Clear.. Expensive stuff! 3 coats recommended.

Go to a bodyshop supply place, or visit a few small bodyshops as what they recommend, maybe you will find a nice one that they will help you out and just not try to take your money.

Most importantly, Read ALL instructions on the products you use, and follow them, not what people say on here.

Theres a great deal of people on here who think there bodywork pro's with their spraybomb and cardboard bondo templates to fill rust holes.

Goodluck!

Wow... thanks for the informative post!

I also talked to a guy at a body shop that said he'd do both fenders for 140... so I guess I gotta see which would be cheaper. Thanks a ton!
