my 91 CRX Si in SICK! HELP
hey guys,
new here... Well i have a 91 crx si, with 175k miles, i have NEVER had a problem with the car. Well the problem started out as a rough idle at startup/ missfire. I got gas the other day and drove 30 miles to work fine. When i got to work it started to missfire and run really rough, and would just die. So after my shift i started the car up and it ran fine. Drove 30 miles home and it was fine, 1 mile away from the house it started to missfire again. Now the car will barely run I have to keep the pedal to the floor for it even to idle. I have changed the plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor. and fuel filter. Is it possible i got bad gas? any ideas?? THANKS!

Have you ever replaced the main relay?
They tend to fail when it is really hot outside...

It is possible..
the two most common things that fail are the main relay
and the distributor/ignitor..
The ignition switch can fail with old age as well..
Any check engine lights?

I hear the main relay can be a bitch to get to. 9times outta 10 its the distributor for me. I've never replaed the main relay. Its definitely not the alternator, if it was then ur battery would be dead by now. Either find someone who has a dizzy to try or pick one up.
HATE to say it but i had the same problem happen to mine and it turned out to be a head gasket. smell your coolant can u smell exhaust and check if its low also start the car and take the radiator cap off, is there exhaust coming out oh and if you have a DVOM (digital OHM Volt meter) you can check to see if the distributor coil is in specs ill go look for the primary and secondary specs and how do your points look on the cap?
looks like its the distributor, if i mess around with the wires that connect to the top of the distributor, it will run fine... i also replaced the main relay and it wasnt that.
how much will a dist run me?

depends on if its oem, used, or remanufacture plus core charge. a remanufacture i think goes for 150-200 i could be wrong, look it up online. i know OEM is like 400 or something outrageous
before u buy one, take the cap off and check your wiring, something might jsut be loose.
