Default Shift linkage or tranny problem?

Just got done installing a JDM GSR motor in my hatch. All went well, didnt throw any codes, etc. That is until we got to the linkage. We hooked it up and it seemed like the stabilizer bar didnt want to line up. After looking at it a little more it looks as if its bent a little up near the shifter. So we bend it a little to where it will finally connect. When we go to shift the gears it wont go into any gear and we cant find neutral. After bending the linkage a little more we finally found neutral and also got first and second gear. Bent it a little more and got first, second, and fifth. Bent it a little bit more and we got first, second, fifth, and occassionaly third. Bent it a little more and nothing else happened. We never got 4th or reverse. Does this sound like a linkage problem or a tranny problem? Is the stabilizer bar supposed to be bent or is it supposed to be straight?

If anyone can help with this I'd really appreciate it. This is the final thing before this swap is done and my car has been on jack stands for 6 weeks lol. TIA.

It's the shift linkage. If it's off of OEM-spec, it won't go into gear or you'll have a hard time getting into gear. Try and place an un-bent linkage in there to solve the problem.

they are both supposed to be bent. it really sounds like a shift linkage problem to me. because if you would have bent it and didn't get third or fifth, then it would be a tranny problem.

and you're not the only one wif a car on jack stands for 6 weeks. mine's been sitting there for two months waiting for a new heart it's about to be done though.

thanks for the replies guys. anyone have a pic or measurements of where and how much its supposed to be bent? I'm from St Louis so its not like my next door neighbor is gonna have an integra shift linkage laying around.

Also, why would it have been a tranny problem if we had bent it and it didnt get 3rd or 5th? Sorry if thats a newb question, ive never messed with trannys and quite frankly, they confuse the **** out of me lol.

yah its your shift linkage.. i did a swap on my girls car and i didnt take the tranny out.. and i kept hitting the shift linkage wit the picker and i couldnt get it into first or second unless i forced it in there... just replace the linkage with an unbent one and try it out
