Plexi glass sunroof
Anyone out there replaced there sunroof with plexi glass? I have an 89 si that I'd love to personalize with lighter plexi glass. Have some questions about the best way to seal it. There's a kit sold on ebay, but my guess is that it would be cheaper to have the part custom made. Thanks for any advice.
I haven't looked into the Ebay kit, if you could get me a link I would very much appreciate it but it's generally Lexan not Plexi Kit. Mr. HomeMadeTurbo himself (Abaz) did a Lexan sunroof which I plan to do a mock-up of within the next few weeks. I talked to him just yesterday and he described it to me like this:
1) Go to store that sells Lexan (In Washington, it's Fiberglass Mart. I don't know if they have those in other locations.) and buy a piece of Lexan. Make sure this is Larger than your sunroof in both Length and Width.
2) Remove your stock sunroof, lay it on top of the Lexan and trace an outline. Remember be precise! This is going in your car!
3) Cut the lines on the Lexan with squared edges, so that you can be sure you have the correct dimensions. Abaz said he used an air-saw for this.
4) Grind down the edges so that they are rounded, as with the runroof for our cars. Keep fitting your it to your roof until you have the perfect fit.
5) Seal it with silicone spray and place it in.
6) Rivet it down to the bracket in the roof. (REMEMBER! Rivets are the best way to make the car inaccessable to thieves, if you use nuts, bolts, screws, etc it can always be removed from the outside by thieves!
Now all I need is a rivet gun, and an air-saw, lol....

You're right, it is lexan. Here's the ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WDVW
If it doesn't work, you'll find it under a search for "crx sunroof" on ebay. How much would you charge to do this? I just moved to seattle again and want to do this once I bring up my car next week. Just worried about the seal on the lexan holding up. Thanks for advice.

it must be because i'm in new mexico where its sunny 350 days a year, but i hardly drive around during the day with my sunroof open because of how bright it is
That lexan kit looks like garbage, its to big and actually sits on the roof.
I have lexan here that I will be fabbing up on a customers crx for his sunroof.

Since you live in WA that would be a long trip
, actually if I could trace it and reproduce I will. I'll have to look into that. The lexan alone cost 60 bucks
