Default poll: pick my hoodpins

i hate to do this to the spoon hood, but i don't want to take any chances at the track, so this is the safest option. looking for something clean, but functional and thought i'd ask about people's experience/ opinions. hood locks are not an option. i've collected pics and prices too in my search, feel free to add your own.

i'm siding with the moroso pins but am looking for your .02

Moroso pins (picture courtesy of crashtest sonny), 17.88 @ summitracing, http://store.summitracing.com/...39010

Dzus fastener (picture courtesy of user five-0), 19.95, http://www.bakerprecision.com/dzus.htm

Sparco pins, 30-ish bucks everywhere

Mugen pins, 30$, aj-racing, http://www.aj-racing.com/produ...estar

pep boys: 10$, or something, cheap.

Do NOT use Dzus to hold your hood on, they are only rated at 85lbs in tension. They are not meant for this type of thing.

I also don't like how the Moroso ones look, with the radiused edge on the pin it can force the slider apart with enough force on the hood....

Use something that has a more positive mode of engagement...like the pin-type designs.

I agree with the Devil Chicken on this one 100%.

Sorry for being such a **** about your safety during our conversations recently, but I'd rather express my concerns than have you hurt by some stupid hood chopping your head off when it breaks free from mounting points.

I voted Sparco. I am concerned about the Moroso's wearing out, and I am unclear about the quality of the parts from Pep Boys.

They're not safe. She did a bunch of research and there are horror stories out there. That's why she said: "hood locks are not an option"

Hood locks are a security measure and should NEVER be used as means of holding the hood down at speed....

Exactly. In fact, doesn't the NRG packaging say that?

I'd go with Sparco or Mugen. They look to be the exact same thing (including pricing) except the Mugen name is more liked

I've got some cheap cotter pin hood pins on my car, and they seem to work OK. They were like $10 at Autozone from what i saw; although they were already on my car when I bought it.

Momo also makes a set that looks like the same thing as the mugen/sparco

The DZUS style are used for a lot of differnt things. I bet you can find a set that will have a higher rating for the hood. I just got the "tuners choice" catalog and they have a few different brands with this same style. Also i bet the summit catalog has these same style. I know hot rod guys use them for hood pins.

Personally i dont like the moroso design, it seems like the you could wear the pin out after a while, there for making it a pretty loose connection.

I'm so that glad with the exception of 3-4-5 posts, all of you have good 'safety' information and are only concerned with the name on the product.

What makes sparco "more secure" than pep-boys version?

Ahmmm ... never mind. LOL!

I had the "red" ones on my old car (if you can see them here).
Worked fine for what they were meant to do.
I'd think Pep Boys would work just as well (just paint them pink if you have to).

The way I see it, price shouldn't be an option for safety, if you have a SPOON hood, I'd get the best...............go with MuGeN, it's JDM Bling and they serve the right purpose!!

Yeah, use a drill.

Actually, you probably want to put some masking tape on and around the area you will be drilling. in case the drill slips on you. Drill from the top of hood down.

Don't worry too much as the plate will cover up the hole itself.

Measure twice...drill once....
