I have a 1998 Accord - 2.3L 4 cyl. with 124k. The CESL came on and the vehicle was stalling at idle and bogging. I had the codes read and received P0170 and P0172. After checking the Honda Service Bulletins, I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and vacuum line. I reset codes. The bog and stalling went away. However, after 1 day the CESL came back on with the same codes (P0171/P0172). I know that there are a host of possibilities for these codes - O2 sensor, fuel injector, fuel filter, air/fuel ratio sensor, etc. I was wondering if anyone has any experience determining what the actual problem is or if there is another common problem linked to these codes? I would like some direction instead of just fuessing and replacing parts that have not yet failed...

What did you folks find out wrong with your P0170 issue? I have the exact thing happening to me right now and have not had any luck figuring it out thus far. So far I have checked for vaccum leaks without any luck, replaced my O2 sensor recently when I had a different code, replaced the map sensor, cleaned the idle air control valve (that seemed to make my idle smoother). I have read so many different possibilities and hate to keep throwing money at it. Any advice on what worked for you would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

Diagnostics must be performed. You need to observe feedback data while the vehicle is running. Fuel trims, MAP sensor etc. Due to the complexity of the vehicle systems it would be little more than a guess to offer suggestions beyond that at this point.

 

I just bought a scanner with live data capabilities, but have no idea how to read all of that stuff. The live data that I got from the P0171 code look like this: Fuel system 1 Status: closed loop, Fuel system 2: not supported, Calculated load value: 25.88%, engine coolant temp: 188.60 F, Short term fuel trim- bank 1: 23.44%, Long term fuel trim- bank 1: 19.53%, Intake manifold absolute pressure: 7.70 inHg, Engine Rpm: 775.25, Vehicle speed sensor: 0.00 mph, Intake air temperature: 113.00 F, Absolute throttle position: 9.80%. Is there a website out there that shows what the Accord #'s should look like when running normal, etc.? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

when i had these codes, I had 3 out of 4 EGR manifold ports clogged. Im still chasing a P0171 code around at this point.

I don't have the P0172 code as titled in this thread. I have a P0170 and a pending code of P0171.

When you had the EGR issue/ports was that on the 2.3 4 cylinder or the 6 cylinder model? From what I have read it's a common problem on the 6 cylinders. I have the 4 cylinder model. Thank!

 

I broke down and took mine to the Honda dealership for a diagnosis. It ended up being a fuel regulator. It was easy to replace so I took did it myself. Thanks to those that offered advice!

 

Try cleaing out ur IACV, Throttle body and EGR
