what is the difference? i'm thinking the vtec-e gets better gas mileage than just plan vtec. is vtec-e bad if i would get a vx as a dd and to race?

 

the e stands for enhanced and i think the heads are pretty much useless if you wanna go fast

 

vtec uses three intake lobes (2 on the outside, and a larger lifting one in the middle). It uses the two outer lobes until vtec kicks in, then the middle lob locks onto the other two and forces them into a larger lift. vtec-e is the same principle, but with only 2 lobes (one before vtec, one that lifts larger and locks onto the first during vtec). All said and done, vtec-e is better than no vtec at all, but you should definetly wait and get vtec.

Oh yah, as far as gas mileage...dunno, prolly does have a little better, but not worth it

 

vtec-e is economy. you get better gas mileage, worse performance. go with the regular sohc vtec ie, y8 or z6

 

It depends on what you're planning to do...

VTEC-E isn't going to give you a whole lot of performance, but it will give you gas mileage if that's what you're in to. I deliver pizzas for Pizza Hut. With gas at 2.40 a gallon here in Indiana, it's my HX is worth it. I regularly see 35 MPG when I'm delivering...(which, for those who have done it, know it isn't Sunday driving...)

When I'm not delivering, or I'm taking a longer trip I see 45-50 MPG as long as I stick to the speed limit.

My car's a little slower than my friend's 95 EX, but for what I do, I'll stick to my 96 HX. If, more like WHEN I want something fast, I'll get something in addition to my HX...something where a spirited drive is a little more fun...

 

i don't know if vtec over vetc-e for autox(thats what is was meaning by racing)

 

its ur choice people hate on the vtec-e but I got 1 in my 4dr til I build my gsr and it people that ride with me round the city says it pulls for a 1.5

y8 rules if you dont have the money for a swap(like myself) i can keep up with 99-00 si's

I use the VX for autocrossing, it do well. But then again i have a si transmission.

 

Y5 pwns you all. I switched to a P28 and my **** PULLS once "VTEC-E" kicks in. I definately wouldnt switch to a Y8 unless
1) I had bigger power goals

and

2)that bitch was damn near free

Running in OSP class. Suspension from coil-over, shock, sway, camber, strut upper/lower, running advan A032R soft + shave. Exhaust, muffler, si tranny. That all i can think from the top of my head.

is it really going to make a significant difference if im planning on turboing my car? i have a 99 hx with 'vtec-e'. so far i havent noticed a seriuos difference but im just wondering

I have turboed an HX and I am in the process of doing it a second time. Doesnt matter. My **** still pulled. My gas mileage was shitty because I was romping on that sucker. If your goals are low, keep the HX

 

vtec = sounds like a bat out of hell
vtec-e = ehh whatever

 

I used to take my VTEC-e mudding, did fine there...rev limit like everyday.....ran strong until the waterpump failed on me and the ball bearings where in the block

if your going vtec, get a z6, way more urable than a y8. =]

Personally I like my y5. It pulls pretty nice against EX's around here. With just a CAI and stupid *** CVT tranny I pulled on many-a-civics around the area. Ofcourse the CVT is broken (what I was waiting for) and almost done with my 5spd conversion.
