carbon fiber or black vinyl for amp rack/boxes?
I am finally in the finishing phases of my large stereo install, however I have a dilemma. I ordered $425 worth of carbon fiber for my amp rack and sub boxes which take up the entire rear of the car behind the front seats, and I just called the place today and they informed me they will not have the carbon fiber to me in time for this car show this Sat. I am quite pissed, and now deciding if I should (a) miss this show and wait for the carbon fiber to come in or (b) use the flat black vinyl (with a little texture) that I already have and make the show this weekend. Either route I go, I will probably take my time and skip this show and wait for one on Aug 13, but wondering if I should go with the carbon fiber or black vinyl. The carbon fiber will go with the scheme of the car, but when I cut the windows for the plexi to show through in the sub boxes, etc, I think the edge will look like crap. The carbon fiber is basically just adhering to the MDF. The other option is to use the vinyl over a 1/4" wood frame that will be cut to make the windows to view the plexi boxes. Also, I have a 17" and 19" screen and I think the vinyl will look like a more professional and smooth "housing" for them. Any opinions on this. I just think the CF may look unprofessional just lying over the MDF amp rack and boxes and cut with sharp edges, vs the curve of vinyl.
Also, if I cancel the CF order in the AM and get my $ back, then I can use that $425 to finish my sun visor screens or maybe get my A and C pillars wrapped in CF as I wanted
yes, I don't want to rush for this show and half *** it. I actually contacted the company that was getting/cutting the CF for me and I am trying to cancel and refund my order. I have instead decided to go through Team Prototype who I will send the 1/4" wooden frames that are going to cover the plexi boxes and act as a window and have them wrap them around the curve of the window so it actually looks professional and not like the CF is just cut to a window shape if this makes sense
i hate to post pics of the car unfinished. I wil deifinitely do up the cardomain.com page after the stereo is done. the back of the car is just gutted w/ dynamat right now, but all the boxes, amp rack, etc are made and in my house. I have to construct some 1/4" wood frames that will act as windows for the plexi, etc and basically overlay the boxes and amp rack. I am sending out these pieces Friday AM to have wrapped in carbon fiber and then I will install them. Definitely will be done for a show on Aug 13. I still want to dump some more money into get the side skirts molded, completely redoing the interior by spring in fiberglass to match the color of the car with lots of custom carbon fiber accents. also, debating whether to build up my motor so I can up the boost, but also want to start building up my Cherokee for off-roading. Here's a pic of the teg currently and my truck which I need to get running so I can sell it and have the extra money for building a real wheelin' rig (the truck is show only and would fall apart off-road, so I must sell it for a toy I can USE)

Hey man aren't you on the-pike.net message board too?
Anyways, I dont know how much customization you have done, but you can acutally lay carbon fiber just like fiberglass. Its just a LOT less forgiving and really damn expensive. Vinyl is nice and easy and cheap too, if you screw it up. I would use CF for accents and do the rest in vinyl.

Well, already in the process of making the 1/4" frame that I will send out to Cali to get wrapped in CF (CFtype.com). Check out their gallery, they do some real nice work. I am getting into glass, etc. this summer/fall, but I don't want to waste the money learning on such a big project
