my friend has a 93 prelude dohc non-vtec and put a 97 dohc vtec engine swap. the people who put it said they also installed a jap. spec ecu.
the car is bucking midly or bad at times when driving in 1st thru 5th gear mainly in the lower gears.
the check engine light codes 1 flash (normally for o2 sensor) when driving on the highway for 20 min. or when vtec is engaging under hard acceleration.
he installed a new bosch o2 sensor and the same thing happened. it also seems to have something holding engine back he says it just doesnt feel like it has the power that a 97 prelude would.

the only thing is why did he put that motor in what was wrong with the other motor cause it is much stronger plus why would he want a OBD2 motor.

 

I'd take it back to the people who installed it and have them look at it. Also, ask to see if they still have the regular ECU for that motor.

 

Arent JDM motors mapped for 110 octane. I used a jdm ecu on my motor for a couple of days when i was doing some testing. Only side effect i had was a higher idle.

 

the problem with the other engine was that it was blown. and the people who installed it really dont want to fix it. when it first happened they said it just needed a tune up and he did that and it didnt work. thanks and if you have anymore ideas let me know i see him everyday. thanks again
