Default steering wheel shaking....did a search....

OK everyone, I've done a search and none of the results seem to indicate what's going on here.

When you get going 50 or 60 in my 91 accord, the steering wheel begins shaking. It's nothing earth shattering, but it shimmies.

Now here's the catcher and here's why none of the search results apply to my situation...

It's worse when it's hotter and it's even a bit more worse when the a/c is running.

Im thinking it's an engine mount...is that possible? Brakes and rotors are fine, and all rims are fine.

Thanks for any input.

yeah engine mount could be the culprit, just put it in neutral, and open the hood, have a friend either step on the gas, or look under the hood to see how it shakes.....goodluck

Yeah...another reason I suspect it may be an engine mount is because when you put the car into reverse, the engine "flexes" quite a bit; more than any other engine I've seen.

Have a buddy step on the brakes and give it gas in forward and reverse and see how much that thing moves.

It's gotta be a few inches...

some MM inserts might help it

jeeze, just sounds like an alignment or balance problem to me. could be tire pressure imbalance too.

Tire pressure is good. Tires were balanced only 10k ago when I got the new tires put on. Alignment wasn't done since I bought the car with 242k on it. It shaked then too, but I found out I had a bent rim...replaced the bent rim and all seemed well for a while...now it's doing it again, but I KNOW it's not a bent rim now.

My friend told me a way to test for a motor mount is to insert a bar into the back of the engine and pull to see if the motor flexes. I know it flexes too much...my ITR doesn't flex at all but it's not an auto tranny.
