Do you need a whole new steering column (highly unlikely) or just a new ignition lock cylinder?

yea you probably just need the ignition cyl. which will come with a new ignition key, your doorlocks will use your original key so you'll have 2 keys. Replacing the whole ignition assembly is pretty easy all you need are just the basic tools, i just did my first one last week and it wasn't hard at all.

I replaced my entire column (went to tilt) in about 2 hours. and that's with swapping the key cylinder out to keep one key.

The hardest part is keeping the wheel centered.
The Helm manual lists what to do perfectly.
