WTF??....does anyone else's alternator power wire stud snap off?
Alright i have snapped off two alternator studs(where the power wire bolts to). The nut gets seized on the stud and when i try to take it off the stud twists right off as well. This second alternator i put in had a stud and nut that looked brand new and in about 2 months i started having problems with my voltage dropping when i am below a certain rpm so i figured it was the power wire on the alternator again(i was having problems with this not making a solid connection before...which is why i replaced the alternator in the first place). So i tried pulling the nut off the stud and this stud broke off too! I know that the metal probably gets weak from the electricity running through it, but how does it get that weak that the stud just breaks off. Is something wrong here?
yea 'll have to next time. Hmm i wonder if honda sells just that stud part or only the whole alternator.
alright well i replaced the stud today. Its just weird to me how the stud and nut looked all corroded when they looked brand new 1.5 months ago when i put the alternator on. After fixing the stud my voltage still drops low in lower rpms, but for some reason when i first start the car and let it sit there and idle the voltage stays up around 13 volts, but after i get moving if i go into lower rpms it drops down in the 11's. This sound like an alternator belt problem maybe?
