Default passenger axle removal

When all else fails, how do I get my axle out?!?!

I am retying to remove my passenger side axle to replace it. I have tried prying, jiggling, yanking, nothing is working. I thought I could use a punc and knock it out from the drivers side but there is a metal rod across the middle of the hole which prevents me from doing this.

Is there any other method that I am missing??

Take a 1ft- 2ft prybar in between the axle and the tranny and pry. should click right out..then slide the rest of the way. I dont know why it wont come out, but ive done axles in 10min at the shop.. Pry...

You cant be a ***** about it. Put the pry bar between the end of the axle and the tranny or half shaft, then pry fast and hard.

Its hard to explain without showing you.

I guess what I am trying to say is- hold the bottom of your pry bar and yank it.

Need any more help pm me.

I use a pry bar and smack the end of the pry bar with the palm of my hand or with the small 1lb sledgehammer I have.

I'm still working at it. I have tried brute force. The problem is that my 24" pry bar wont fit at the right angle between the axle/tranny because of the subframe (i think that's what it was in the way) so I am using the smaller pry bars. I've done about a dozen axles and this wont seem to come out by brute force or finesse. I'll keep at it. Thanks guys.

Constant pressure will not work as well as sudden pressure. There is a ring on the end of the axle that has to snap into a grove. This sudden pressure will cause it to pop right out of that grove.

I agree and this is the method that has worked best for me in the past

Prying probably will not work, at least it never has to me. The method shown in the Helms is what I always do and it always works quite easily for me. What you need to do is take a big flathead screwdriver and wedge it in between the axle joint and the differential housing. Stick the screwdriver in between there, and then tap it in further. The wedge shape of the screwdriver will force the snap ring on the axle out of the groove in the differential, and you should be able to pull it out quite easily.

well all I know is that is how the Helms shows to do it. I've had to remove my axles probably 5-6 times at least and wedging the screwdriver always works easily, no need to break your back underneath the car trying to pry the thing out.

Now the driver side axle is another story. That is a total PITA to get off, as there is nothing to wedge or pry against or anything. The only way is to take a big screwdriver, place it on the side of the joint and smack it with a BFH. Unfortunately this is quite difficult if you're trying to work underneath the car on jackstands. It is pretty easy if the car is on a lift, though, where you can get a good swing at it.
