Typically an intake is just an intake (a aluminum arm from the t-body with a filter).

My suggestion would be to save the money and buy a ebay intake and either upgrade to a k&n filter or keep the one it comes with...intakes generally don't make much if any power over stock.

You could do a freebie intake by removing the lower airbox (located in the passenger fender) and put a k&n drop in filter in your oem airbox.

You can also make your own out of pvc piping for around 20 bucks: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1035101

because some pple are willing to pay $200+ for a "high performance" intake and companies know that and exploit it. on your car (and mine) it may add a couple HP somewhere in the powerband but nothing you will or can feel.

just this week i added an AEM blue cold air intake ($50 used) and here are the advantages IMO:
#1 stock intake components weigh around 10 lbs and the new intake weighs maybe 1 lb.
#2 alot less clutter on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
#3 much much cooler sound..which is what I was going for in the first place.

now, along w/that sound..if I didnt know better, I would say that it actually made a diff in perfromance..but I know its just the sound tricking me (3500+ sounds great) and it actually has done next to nothing in hp.

unless you can find one used cheap (like i did) just do what the others have said and buy a generic w/a k&N and be happy w/a very minimal gains in power but lots more sound that pple will notice.

yeah just buy a $20 ebay one and then put on an injen/aem filter that they put on their intakes...by saving the $100+ dollars you only lose a fancy plate with a name brand on it

basically you pay for the name that sells teh intake

i mean you COULD if you wanted to and knew how to weld or wanted to use a lot of couplings go to liek Advance Auto Parts, but metal pipes and a filter and make your own

It will give you the sound

Most the cars ive "listened" to with short ram sound more "throaty" than cold air b/c of ti being a shorter piping system

If you dont want to spend a lot of money then most real cold-air intakes are out of the question.

a short ram will work fine, and you could even rig up a home-made ram-air to make it inot a "cold-air"

arite, just to make sure im not a complete idiot, im going to run this idea by everyone. I was going to buy a cheap ebay short ram intake, and get the Injen cold air extension and a K&N air filter. Sound like a good plan?

as long as the piping is the same diameter

and the sticker makes it so whoever inspects your car knows that the product there is SMOG legal

hey
go w/a generic short ram.. i live in florida and w/all this damn rain ive been scared to death of sucking in water through my cold air.. even though its still in the engine compartment (its just right where the opening is) and isnt a "true" cold air.

have peace of mind w/the short ram. im gonna cut mine again this weekend and make it the ram..

i have that sticker...
If you get an extension its not the same unless you get he same size piping and if it fits snug with eachother..
I have a cai it doesnt really make a differnce durring the hot days in california but on cold nights and on days with dense air i can feel a slight diffence... for every 1 degree drop its one hp...even tho its little its still better than the guy who doesnt have it.. i guess....

yeah, its basically as it is for an intercooler

cooler air is gonna make all the difference, teh onyl reason they get away with calling it a CAI is becuase it draws in air that IS cooler then the engine bay but not by much.

i mean go figure, of course outside air will be cooler than in the bay where you got a motor running and parts heating up to liek 900*+

taht sticker is for CARB

CALIFORNIA
AIR
RESOURCE
BOARD

people (like me) spent money on intakes because: 1.) they didnt know better 2.) they wanted the blingy name...

i would never buy that weapon-r thing because it was an Ebay brand that went big, and therefore its an ebay intake thats alot more money....

um....that would melt most of the engine bay....

all will produce similar power results.

if your in cali you will want one with a CARB sticker.

http://www.tprmag.com/issue/1/ca-results.shtml

look at the dyno tests, not much of a difference for the price differences.

I've gone through tons of different intake setups, and it seems that the only thing that is affected by different ones is throttle response and sound.

IMO the best setup I had was a homemade intake made out of 2.5" steel tubing. The steel made a lower growl than all of the aluminum intakes on the market, and it just sounds so much better than all the whiny intakes on the market.

No matter which way you go, the air is going to get into the combustion chamber, and your engine is not going to get more air just because you have different piping or a better filter. And these cold air intakes are deceptive, as the metal becomes heat soaked after the car warms up, so even though you're pulling air outside of the engine bay, it's still going to be warmed up by either the heat soaked intake tube or the hot coolant flowing through ports in the intake manifold.

Stock intake > *

the air wouldnt heat up that fast.. its imposible... but what it is sucking in is the denser air.. that better then the dry hot enine air... does anti heat tape really work?
