Default shops to do an auto to manual trans swap

Like the title says, I was wondering if there are any places in the NJ region (NYC, Philly) that are reliable to do a transmission swap on a 2000 Civic. I got the car with an automatic way back when I bought the car new, supercharged it last summer, and basically the gearbox is not holding up (or so I think, I have to confirm this yet). My explanation is here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1303677.

Rough estimates on prices for a swap would be helpful as well, if anybody knows or has had it done. Thanks.

youd be better off buying all the parts and doing it yourself. just search on here.. it has been done before. it's not that hard to do it.. almost like changing a clutch and then some. a shop would probably charge you more for labor than the parts alone would cost.

Yea, I agree, but my resources to do it would be limited and even though I'm far from lazy, getting a reasonable price quote would have me more inclined to letting someone else do it. It's the experience of having done it hundreds of times to my 0 times that has me not not too anxious to have a new transmission break due to my inexperience or negligence.

EDIT: I'll take a look anyway, I'm always looking for a project.

excluding the lights, basically all you need is the clutch lines and the clutch cylinder and the pedal and slave cylinder

And uh, don't forget the transmission itself.

having other people do your work is pretty weak.... in fact it's just lame.

Do you know what's also lame? Someone posting a useless response to a valid question. I have car knowledge, but gathering information is a better way to start out than to pretend to know everything and then eff something up. I'm only asking because it's something I've never done and it's an option.

And admitting you don't know an answer is often smarter than pretending to know all the answers... so shut it.

It's really not hard at all and hard to mess anything up. Hoist the engine well when removing the transmission.

The only thing you could really mess up is not getting the flywheel on tight enough, or the clutch. Tighten those two down really well and you're good. If you get into it and have problems, you can feel free to IM me on AIM, if you really get into problems, you can always tow it to a shop to have them finish it.

Do it yourself man, You can get it done, in fact i have all the pieces left from a auto to manual swap i was going to do for a customer and he bolted.

I did one, and that was all i needed, have done 6 after that.

4 hours the most time now, consider trying it.
after all this it H-T home of the DIY

I'm actually having a shop do it this swap for me as we speak. Reason being is because my lack of tools and time, I work full time and when I'm not working I'm helping my parents with various things. The shop is charing me roughly 300 to do the swap, I brought them all the parts that they would need.

I'm actually leaning towards doing it myself now that I've been reading for hours on end. I've done the rest of the work on the car myself and have yet to have problems. Anyway, a few things...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by x O 16581 72452 5 x &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Hoist the engine well when removing the transmission.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Out of the ppl that have done this already, how many of you have left the engine in place and just unbolted the tranny from there? I ask because I don't have access to an engine lift.

for which engine? I'm looking for nothing other than an EX D16Y8 tranny from 99+.

and on that note, who just has a complete swap laying around for what I'm looking for (none other), and how much would it cost for you to part with it? Just out of curiosity and to make my life easier... PM me with whats included, I'd like a 5spd ecu as well, even though not necessary.

You don't necessarily need an engine lift, but you need some way to hold up the passenger side of the engine, a swing set frame with a rope, rafters in the garage, 2x4s laying across your firewall and radiator support with ropes, anything, but it requires hoisting. I say "hoisted well" because i had a bicycle cable holding my engine up, the loops where the lock is supposed to go i put a bolt through, those loops are held by crimps, the crimp let go and my engine fell.

damn that must have been a bitch.

anyway, i suppose i could support the block from below with cinder blocks and wood as long as theres height alignment with the other jack stands holding the frame up.

I've been looking but haven't found a definitive answer for a 96-00 Civic. Does this swap require new axles on either side? Some swaps from certain years do, some don't, what a surprise.
