Default just bought a vx hatch with d15z1, whats this problem...

My gf totalled her 93 4 door. I found her a 92 hatch vx that she bought with her insurance money. nice car but there is a problem...

Its got the d15z1 vtec, and basically an hf tranny ( really tall gears) whenever it accelerates its fine, does as it should. but whenever you let off the gas to just cruise or slow down, it shudders heavily. When you press the gas more it hesitates a lot then it goes away and accelerates.

I change the plugs and oil, got a fuel filter but havnt changed it yet. and to test if it was the plug wires i used some 9.3mm off my friends rex. Nothing changed.

It seems whenever the shift light comes on around 2k it starts it. It happens in every gear. There is no check engine light on.

Any suggestions?

anybody had any problems with bosch platium-2's?

not sure of your exact problem. i have a vx, it might just be cuz the motor sucks. i would almost never use 4th. on the freeway i would actually leave the car in 3rd just so i can get the thing to go. would be going 70 on the freeway, and not even be past 3500 rpms. dont shift when the light comes on, take it a little higher so you can get some power to push the car. weak motor + long gears, horrible low end power. but great gas mileage

Maybe since it has the longest gears of the D-Series family, cruising around at 40 MPH in 5th gear isn't a smart choice. Even with my DX transmission, the car shudders if I'm in 5th and try to run it below 40 MPH.

yeah when it starts going around 40, it just starts studdering a little, so I'll drop it to 4th, but sometimes that's not enough, and I end up in 3rd..

I had a 92 and a 94 vx. The both did the same thing. I replaced the distributor, plugs, wires, pcv valve, and ecu. I seafoamed it and the problem was alot better but still there. It endedup being the o2 sensor. Be prepared to shell out some money for it. Honda quoted me $479 for it. I just lived with the studdering then swapped a b18c1 in it.

When I'm going 40, it's always in 3rd for me.

is 479 just the price for the sensor itself? is that some special 02 sensor? 479 is alot for an o2 sensor. btw, its not only when the motor bogs down at 5th going 40, it doesnt matter how fast, i could be going 30 in 2nd and it will do it. but thanks guys

Damn, $479 for the Oxygen sensor?

When mine went bad (We damaged the clip when we were putting the new Header on) I just found an old exhaust manifold we had laying around the shop.

Bought the Oxygen Sensor Socket ($22.00 or so) took a torch to the Oxygen Bung, and impacted the HELL out of it.

It finally came off, and all was fine.

Why did it cost $479? Is it mad JDM yo'?

You weren't looking at a VX o2. It's $322 at http://www.hondaautomotivepart...81%29

The VX 02 sensor is a factory wideband 5 wire o2.

You shift early.

Its a VX it sucks. Doesnt even make decent power to go up a hill till 3500.

I got a 95 VX. I cruise at 70 in 4th, but if u need to pass ANYTHING drop that bitch in 3rd and wait 2 seconds. Mine seems to lag for split second when im in low RPM's and get on the gas a lil.
