87 teg wanting to be turbo?
I have a 87 teg that I want to put a turbo on and was wondering what kind of work would it be to get running i can get all the parts cheap(turbo stuff) but i want to know how itll work with the vacum ignition ans so on? whatta u guys think?
If you are asking this question you are not yet ready for the cost or consequence:
In a formula of turbo, you can choose 2 out of the 3 options: cost, performance, and reliability.
87 is an old teg, you probably need a full rebuilt with good internal parts to freshen it up, things like JE piston, Eagle rod, ARP bolts, or other good quality FORGED internals. All bearings, all gaskets, new oil pump, new rings, just to name a few.
Then make sure you research the right balance of boost vs lag. Then get the parts and CHECK THE QUALITY before you put them on (or get new parts).
Finally, make sure you have $ saved up for tuning and smog check hookup. A good tune makes the difference between fast and slow, blown motor vs reliability.
