For around that price, you can get a pitbull stand...i have one myself and it can change to fit a spooled swingarm or one w/o spools. its got my vote

spools are MUCH sturdier. also if your bike goes down, the spools will give some much wanted protection. Mine were pretty grinded down, but they completely saved my swingarm. Not bad for $15,

i bought a pitbull rear stand from cycle gear .. could change from the spools to one w/o spools ... $140. they're so sturdy, my friend was on my bike while it was on the stand shakin around, and it wouldn't even budge .. and you can pick up the rear and trailor the biatch around and no worries.

it's the first, and last stand you'll ever buy ... unless you get a front, then that'll be yer last

I've got the el'cheapo Handy Stands (front and rear stands $99 for both), but honestly have zero complaints about the quality of the stands.

I have had people climb all over my bike when it's on the stands, I work on it all the time, and they have no problem keeping it perfectly still.

I looked at pitbull stands (and actually bought pitbull spools for my handy stands), but I could not justify the money, and the handy stands don't have the extra handle to take up room or become a trip hazard in my garage. I could see needing the extra handle length if I was a girl , but I can put in my Handy stands with the best of them. The pitbull front stand with the support on the frame would be nice though.

I'm not talking down the pitbulls, beacause they probably are the best stands out, I'm just chiming in with something good to say about the handy stands.

+1 for the Handy Stands. They're ~$110 shipped, and for the extra $40, your mom could buy swingarm sliders for you (different from just spools; they work as spools and sliders).

Since I don't own a bike, would it be okay if I asked what stands are needed for?

Used to hold the bike upright, with the tire in the air. Great for working on the bike, garage storage, and especially long time storage (like over the winter).

Plus, they're practically required for race bikes, which don't have kick stands.

I'm guessing you can't park a race bike at the local store, or a friends house... or anywhere?
I figured some wouldn't come with kick stands.
I don't think I'm even old enough to get a bike yet. Being 16 sucks.
My only experience has ben with a low cc dirt bike. It had an auto, too.
I can drive a stick, but am not sure about a manual bike. Must get a wrist aching when you first learn how.
Anyway, back on topic. Thanks for telling me why you need a stand.

Well, you don't just buy a "race" bike, unless you buy a used one. You buy a bike, usually a "race replica" or something of that nature, and you convert it to a racing bike. And no, you can't take them anywhere but the track.

BTW, In my state, you can get your motorcycle license at 15.

Wow. I live in RI. We are a vere small state, but we probably have a higher population, meaning in some places, we are packed in. I'm guessing you'd have ot be older, here.
I THINK it is 18 where I live. There is a katana at our school, but I never see the driver. It can't be a teacher.

I get what you're saying about race bikes. Just seems a lot of people want these stands. The same people who ride their bikes on the street. I guess a lot of people use it for maintenance, which I guess would make sense. See, the only maintenance I have ever done on a two wheeler was on my bmx bike, where I can just flip it over.

For a little more you can get the pitbull stands. I have a pitbull front and rear stand. My rear stand can switch from spooled or non-spooled when I have to work on other peoples bikes. Its really easy to switch. The front I have can lift from the forks or the triple.
