has anyone had and problems using non toda cam gears on toda spec b cams?
Neither did i, until i saw this on Toda's site.. Can't tell if it's a ploy to sell more cam gears or if there is any validity to it..
Some aftermarket campulleys use connecting bolts that are not compatible with TODA camshafts. The use of these bolts could damage the TODA camshafts. If you plan to use TODA camshafts, we only recommend using TODA campulleys to prevent damage to the camshafts.
i guess it could be possible that another manufacturer has produced cams and pulleys for the honda and used a different thread for the cam gear bolt. not sure if this is true or who if so...but thats my guess

Ok, question #2, do you think it's worth it to upgrade to the bronze valve gudies sold on jdmhondaparts.com? since the head will be apart to put the springs/retainers in anyway?
For what it is worth, my OE bolts did not work with my Toda 1st Gen. gears. The OE bolt has a lip that extends past the bolt head just slightly. This lip ground into my valvecover when we used them. The Toda supplied bolt did not have this lip and didn't hit the cover.
xjohnx: no.
RStoR: that reason was brought up before so yes with the toda gears, using their
bolts is probably necessary if you dont cut your cover. i havent had problems
with skunk gears and stock bolts though

I took some pics of the differnce in offset when NOT using toda gears or stock gears (which no one would use anyway). There is about 1mm more width on some aftermarket gears so when torque the 12mm bolt it puts added stress on the part of the camshafts which can cause to break.
The closest you can come to the stock width of the inside of gear that goes over camshaft, the better off you are, thats the short answer.

I ran Skunk2 gears on my Spec B's. They worked fine. Of course they want you to buy their stuff so they are going to recommend their products over someone elses.
