Default Modifications and Smog tests - Ontario (help!)

I think I'm finally going to start modifying the car for power. Having paid off the car and having 3+ years under me, it's time to start, albeit small. What is the limit before I start failing drive clean, here in Ontario?

Start with the big picture, can I expect to hit 190-200+ whp and still be legal and pass drive clean? I want to be responsbile, but also have some fun. So the cat stays on, no matter what. I may consider going to an aftermarket one as long as I can pass emissions. The ITR is my only car, and is my daily driver.

Any ideas?

Youˇ¦re looking for the same setup as me.

My road map includes the following:

- Mild cams (Spoon or Toda spec As).
- Cam gears of course
- JDM style header, take your pick
- Aftermarket Hi-Flow cat
- A drop in filter or AEM
- Exhaust to un-cork those last few ponies.
- Lots and Lots of ECU tuning possibly with the redline increase to 9000RPM.

You might start the tuning process with something like a Vafc alone and see where that puts you. I have seen some fairly mild setups get into the 190s on this forum, it is all in the tuning.

Have fun,

I've heard about it and you can check it out from here http://www.driveclean.com.

however, my friend has a 92 civic and didn't require to do a check up when he renew his licence in 2001 (which was stated in the site).... so.... gov't....

btw, does anyone know if they will pull u over and do a emission test at the spot?

probably going to need a fpr if you're using a vafc, and higher compression wouldnt hurt either.

FPR indeed, but higher compression might hurt you in the smog test.

Doesn't Sakai hit 200's with Spec As? I forget wether he has a cat or open exhaust. In anycase, I'm probably going to talk to Yoshio at Japanese Auto and get his take on it. I spoke to him last year over the phone and mentioned I wanted to be smog legal and he said something like a "metal cat" could work. The guy's hard to understand over the phone.
