OK, i'm gonna use a dremel with a light bit on it i guess, clean em up good. my biggest issue at the moment is getting the valves off. i'm going a cheaper route cuz im planning on getting something else soon, but my 91 dx 4door needed a head gasket anyways so i'm going to lap the intake valves and replace the exhaust valves. the head i got has 70k on it, and only one valve is actually bad, i just want new exhaust valves so they seat nice. do you have any idea where i can get a tool to compress the valve springs so i can take the retainers off, or something i can use instead of buying a tool?

Here's the tool you need: http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/SP-91400.html

As for the carbon, I would use some brake cleaner to loosen it up.
