i wouldnt just take off the belt.. and if that is what you do you need to keep the steering rack properly lubicrated with steering fluid or your rack could go to **** then you'll be in some trouble. theres a few good writeups on ht about how to properly remove it.

but IMO i would keep it i love ps,

This thread is all you need.

It's really straightforward.

If you can't figure it out, buy a Helms.

I took my belt off Just before Expo so I could save gas on a 5000 mile trip, It worked too

No PS belt = 35 mpg!!!

So I guess it does free up some power.

Needless to say the thread starter should have done a search. This topic has been covered in length.

I simply cut my PA and A/c belts.
Don't ask why.

Ok...

If you couldn't figure out how to loosen tension on the belt and remove it, you shouldn't be working on your car by yourself.

Don't bother, it's not worth it for a couple of hp. I did it and regret it, and I'm too lazy to put it back on

I agree.

However, it IS worth it for steering feel. The feedback without power steering is very nice.

I couldn't agree more....your feel for the surface you are driving on increases abundantly. I personally like the feel of the car without, although power steering is very convenient to have at times as well.

power steering is for pussies. lol
Without the belt it feels a little tuff. Once you plug the rack and remove it all it feels better IMO.
I love all the feeling though.

There was a real nice thread on a DIY PS removal kit, used nice AN fittings Hi Temp hose. Real clean real nice install. User name "Padawan" sells a nice little kit with some real nice and easy instructions. Only take about 1-1.5hrs to fully install.
