I replaced my radiator a week or so ago and after buttoning it all up I proceded to fill the radiator. I basically dumped in new coolant until it reached the top, I then squeezed the top radiator tube and the coolant level went down, so I turned the heat to full blast and started the car with the cap off. I opened the bleed screw and when it started streaming out I closed it up. About 5 minutes later the car reached 1/2 on the temp gauge, about 15 more minutes went by and no cooling fans turned on. So I let it go on for another 5 minutes and nothing.

<U>I know that the bottom radiator tube is not full, and I am afraid to drive it. I did fill the overflow tank to the fill mark, so my question is if I am driving will fluid be pulled from the overflow tank to fill the system? </U>
I think the only way the fans will come on is if I drive it, but Iam worried about if the fans don't come on, and rish overheating.

I did take out the thermostat and checked in on my stove, and it opened up perfectly.

So I am also thinking could the temp sensor in the head be bad, and how would I check?

 

what i do is i leave the cap off..let it bubble off for a while..

 

ok, any other information as to if the system will fill itself up using the overflow tank?

 

as long as you aren't overheating don't worry about it. sitting at idle, my H22 takes literally 20 minutes or so to turn on the fan. it freaked me out at first

if your bottom hose really doesn't have fluid there is something seriously wrong - there are no valves or anything that would prevent it from filling up. it should fill when you fill the radiator. here comes captain obvious: did you take out the plastic plugs that probably came in your radiator? (assuming you got it new)

 

Yeah I took them out.
I just don't think that the bottom lower radiator hose will fill up close to the thermostat.

ahhhh who knows I will just drive the som bitch and see what happens.

Ok the lower radiator hose, that goes from the bottom of the radiator and swoops up towards the TB. It connects to the thermostat housing. That is the hose I am talking about.

anyway is it overheating? fan cut on?

 

Well I drove it about 14 miles today, it was about 98 degrees outside. Did not overheat but the cooling fan didn't come on either? When I turn on the a/c both the fans come on, so I know it works. But I am wondering if the temp sensor is faulty, or the thermostat is now bad. Just checked it about 4 days ago.

 

you need to take the top hose off the radiator and pour the fluid into that hose to go into the block until it overflows out of the hose then strap it back on the radiator! if you don't do that the thermostat will not open up and your fan will not come on.
