Default Is the VAFC Dangerous For The Car?

I was just wondering because quite a few of the R's that are for sale that I've been looking at had this mod. Are there any ramifications of using the VAFC, especially when you want to remove it (ie. stripped wires, messed up stock onboard computer..etc). Would it be wise to look into buying a car with this mod being that the person can now alter the cars vitals.

TIA,

George

There *could* be, depending on who installed it. Yes, you have to tap into the factory wiring harness (unless you get a wiring harness adapter elsewhere). Yes, you can tune the V-AFC to the point that it could cause engine damage.

BUT. Assuming the V-AFC was installed properly, was used properly, and was removed properly, you should be all good

[edit] A V-AFC does not *change* the factory ECU, it merely lies to it. It adjusts reported sensor voltages to "trick" the stock ECU into producing the desired results. Remove the V-AFC and the stock ECU returns to its happy, dumb state [/edit]

So, how many of you would buy an R that has had the VAFC installed on it. Anything I should look for when buying the car with one on it. Also, is there any reason why I've been seeing so many stock R's with this on them. I was under the impression this was just a tuning agent and would do absolutely nothing for a stock car.

If I was going to by any performance-oriented car I would definitely do a compression check and leak down check as well as inspect all fluids and spark plugs.
