did it break or is it making noises?

you can replace the inner wire in about 10 minutes. Disconnect the cable from the back of the speedometer. Then on the top back of the tranny, pull the boot around the cable, then use a needle nose plyer to pull the retaining clip off. The cable comes right out.

I had to re-grease mine a few months back.

phillips screw driver for the dash. needle nose for the retaining clip. Thats all I can think of. Probably make it really easy if you remove the intake hose/tube.

I did this to mine on the ground in about 30 minutes (the first time takes a minute). Just take the dash off 2 screws in the back hidden under covers that a flathead screwdriver will help to pop off and then one screw under the hazard light and another in virtually the same place on the other side. Then once thats off look on the far right side of the cluster basically behind the speedo and the cable should be in a golden cap thing that clips into the cluster and then running I think through the firewall into the engine bay. Ok then in the engine bay I'd say about dead center on the firewall there should be a wire sticking out to the left a little. Follow that to the back of the tranny and pull back the rubber boot and then you can snap it off there with needlenose pliers. I hope that helps.

Disconnect it from the tranny first and run the new wire from the engine side to the dash. It should just slide through the stock sheath.

On the tranny where the cable goes in. You will feel a groove on the bottom of that thing, thats where the clip will snap into to hold the cable in place. Just push the cable into the tranny as far as it will go then get the clip into the groove. Then just put the dust cover back over it.

You should reset your ecu. How? Disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

I finially got my d16z6 in my 4g4dr working, but the speedo wasn't working. I thought it didn't go in very well, this post reminded me of the clip VT@K!!
