intermittant no start,89 prelude si
here's the deal, about 90% of the time the car cranks and fires right up. the rest of the time it will only turn over and not start up, if you let it sit for 5 or 10 min it will usually fire right up no problem. doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold. driving wise the car is great except for the occasional 100rpm or so dip which only happens every so often and may not occur for several days. it never gets close to stalling out or anything just a minor fluctuation. not sure if the 2 problems are related although the 2nd problem is almost a non-issue it's such a faint idle change. almost a year ago the ignition switch went out at least that's what i think it is. when you turned the key all power would come on but no engine cranking or clicking at all, only dash lights. to get the car started i hooked up my remote starter switch and it fired right up. so since i didn't have the money at the time i basically made a push button starter set up for it and that's how it's been going this whole time until now. no i didn't go into the factory wiring harness. i assume the ignition switch also switches power to the ignition system allowing the car to fire up because the car will never start w/o turning the key to the on position. i think the "coil" part of the ign. switch is starting to fail, let me know if i'm going in the right direction.
next time the car doesnt start. turn the key to the on position. does the check engine light go on then go off after a few secs.
if it doesnt go off. then its most likely your main relay. I know it sounds stupid but if your check engine light doesnt go off ater a few seconds after turning the ignition to on, kick your dash board. ( I know this sounds stupid but I have had to do it in about 4 cars now. and all the light went out after kicking it. then started right up after.
