Default Removing axles for engine swap?

Every write up I read says to remove the entire exle from the car to do the swap. Can't I just leave it connected to the wheel/fork/etc. and just pull it from tranny?

The spindle and hub assembly keeps the axle firmly seated in the trans. So unless you unbolt the spindle so it can swing out of the way you will not be able to remove the axle from the transmission.

Gotcha, thanks for the help. Looks like it will just be a good chance to get the rotors turned.
