Default O.T. How's your little area of the country?

Hey everyone,

Just was downsized out of a job , (Herman Miller Inc. Office furniture/systems manufacturer) made it through the first 3 cuts but didn't have enough seniority to make it through this last 40% reduction in middle mgmt. Who wants to buy office furniture when the economy is suffering?

So, the question, how are the job markets in your area of the country? I'm in Michigan, make that cold Michigan. Things looking up? How about those nicer places to live like Georgia, California, N & S Carolina, Florida, Arizona, etc.?

Why don't you try a job with the military. They seem to be the only ones around with a ton of money to spend.....

You might like Denver. Sure we have winter but we're downright hot compared to Michigan. Most days in the winter are sunny with highs in the 40s and 50s. Oh and the mountains rule. Great windy roads to drive for days, hiking, camping, mountain climbing whatever you like to do.

The job markewt here is about the same as everywhere else. It's slow but you can get a job. I got laid off in December and was back to work before the new year with a $2 an hour raise.

Used to live in Colorado

Lived in Aurora, Parker, Franktown, and way out in Craig (by Steamboat Springs). Beautiful area.

F that higher elevation and slower times at the track in Colorado! Great weather though!

We do go slower, but it's not that bad. A C5 can still run a mid-low 14 up here.

We can also get away with things like boosting your car a little easier too. There's a lot of guys running 10psi on stock bottom ends around here with no problems. I'm talking no problems, daily driven for two or more years.

Edit: TodaSi, Craig is a real pretty area, I'd love to move there. Jobs are hard to find though. I'm in Littleton right now, about a mile from Columbine HIgh.

Yea, I liked Craig. You have Mt. Zirkel wilderness, Bear Ear's pass, Steamboat Springs just 42 miles away, but there's nothing but coal up there.

GA economy is probably one of the better ones in the country. We're growing out of control and there are many jobs (albeit probably not in all sectors) in the state. Hit us up if you are looking for a specific job...

NC/FL have both been burned down

Seriously, I love NC. Will probably never leave. I think the weather is great, but Garth would likely disagree

See I've spent some time in the Greensboro area and loved it. I also spent some time in Florida, Vero Beach...not the most exciting place. Lets see,

NC curvy roads, fine weather
CO curvy roads, okay weather
FL straight flat roads, fine weather
CA curvy roads, freeks and riots and earthquakes
GA curvy roads, fine weather
anyone else?

Back in October we shut down our Rocklin, CA manufacturing and got rid of everyone! Ouch! At one time I was going to take a job out there, but didn't....kinda wish I did even though they shut the plant down.

Madtown!
Madison is very nice, but, I don't think my fiancee would like me living there with all the beautiful women around all the time. Oh wait, Madison, Wis never mind all the women there are fat cheese eaters j/k

Everyone knows Cali is paradise on Earth...

Actually, when my job took a $hit in NC... I was tempted to stay and get another one... only family brought me back to CA.

NC
CA
but
Family

but in all seriousness... I'd never relocate for a job, again. Even in these harsh(er) times, a good job isn't too hard to find where you want to live...

If you can afford it, I would move to cali. Furniture really is slow right now. Unfortunately my dad owns a few furniture stores and business aint that great.

NYC is pretty cold, freezing cold at nights, and jobs are hard to find. Many businesses are moving out of town, and crazy stuff happens in the news everyday.
I drive all over the place and don't see too many nicely hooked up Integras, where are they all at? Where are the nice ones? i only see rice on the road.!

NYC has gotten pretty safe, security is pretty tight after 9/11. I've been down to the WTC site like 2x already. I really dont go anymore cuz its depressing.
