i've had an annoying tap in the motor since i bought it, and havent been able to locate the problem. me and my mechanic pulled the head and made sure there wasnt a bent valve and reset the valve lash to .010 exhaust and .008 intake, but its still there. anyone else have this problem?
btw my setup is d16y7 with greddy turbo kit, je pistons, eagle rods, webcam turbo grind cam, crane fireball coil and ignition, and stock but new valvetrain.
any help is appreciated

If the spec is less, sorry didn't really read the whole post just relplied, then the valve would actually be opening less than if it was in spec. Hmm, just read it, how did you guys check for bent valves, leak down testing? Or did you do the old pull the head and pour a little gas in the combustion chambers and see if anything leaks through? I just pulled my head off my B16 I threw a rod in and I could see a gap between the valve and the valve seat in the cyl that the rod went on. But sometimes the bend can be so slight iot's nearly undetectable without a leak down or other test or pulling the valves.. Good luck though man, been so long since I have fucked with SOHC I wish I could help you out. The only other thing I could suggest is getting a stethascope to narrow down where the sound is coming from..

 

thanks for the replies. we took the valves out of the head and visually inspected them, i guess that wont help much if its barely off though. it almost sounds like its coming off the exhaust side and echoing around the valve cover. if i run a leakdon test and it doesnt shw anything, ill probably use this as an excuse to get a dohc
