Strange noise from engine bay!!!!1! (caution: Dirty ITR pics)
I started the car this evening and it made a strange sound. It sounded like it was running. OMG! Then I took it around the block and there was this whooshing noise as soon as I got on the gas!

[Background info: Cracked exhaust manifold at ITR Expo, Decided to get a Lovefab Minime, which meant a new turbo housing, which meant a new downpipe, which meant I might as well get a 3" catback, etc. etc.)
Damn that turbo is a jigsaw puzzle. The T3 flanged housing (on the GT2871R) moved the exhaust housing an eighth of an inch closer to the center turbo housing, so I ended up having to grind that eighth off of half of the bolts that hold the exhaust housing on, in order to clear the oil fittings.
I also had to grind away at the banjo bolt that feeds in the oil
The downpipe didn't fit as well as I thought it did. It's right up against a bolt on the tranny, and sits too high overall (had to use a jack on the "catback" in order to get it to meet up. Hopefully it doesn't put too much stress on the manifold.
Nothing else fit either, needed new water lines for the turbo, new charge pipe, modified the intake pipe too (the turbo sits 180 degrees opposite where it used to sit).
Overall I'm super happy with the setup. Oil lines should stay a lot cooler this way. Dipstick shouldn't burn up as often. Wastegate dump tube is welded back into the downpipe. If I don't crack anything it should be awesome. Boost builds super quick (starts up quick at 2500) which is very nice compared to before (peak boost around 5000, not sure where it is now but well below 4000).
I killed my battery completely and it wouldn't take a charge, so I picked up a motorcycle battery from Sears today. That'll do for now, it's even smaller than my Hawker G13EP that I killed. It's about 3.5"x5"x4.5" high.
Smaller than two cans of coke.
Oh well, adios.... here's pictures.
Blue header == DIY ceramic coating

Wastegate dumps back into the downpipe. Nowhere to go with it, so I just ran it back right there (6" from the turbo)

Tiny battery. Glad I took the subwoofer out.

Rear == cleanish

3" Downpipe is header-wrapped. Lots of ground clearance.

New 3" thermal.. looks crooked.
... At least it works.

Nice to see you've got it back together.
I've been considering what to do with my turbo stuff ... and whether to put it back in a/the ITR.
See you at the track again one of these days.

For sure. Watkins glen perhaps.
I haven't taken it past 6500 RPM (just did a shakedown drive before I head to work tomorrow)... but man this new turbo housing spools quick!
.64 vs .86 A/R (or something along those lines).
It'll be interesting to see if I lost any top-end at all, with the smaller A/R, with the much much larger exhaust (2" vs 3" downpipe, etc.)

I thought Thermal exhausts had good fitment.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I actually took the one off of the passenger side of the muffler to try to get it to fall down on that side, but it didn't. Well, maybe a little, but the pic you're looking at is with the driver side hanger off. The hangers don't really twist it at all though, it's sorta where it needs to be.
Now I've got that ever-sought-after ricer lean!

Oh, I thought you were saying that the orientation of the muffler in the picture was with the hangers on.

I'll probably drive without that one hanger. All the others are on. So either mine was made crooked, or I suck at exhaust. *shrug*
Here's a straight thermal 3". (couldn't find a pic, just a short vid from the same angle as my picture)

I plan to. Different manifold, different A/R turbo, different downpipe/catback..
I haven't had time to get to redline or watch A/F closely. I know it's rich but I'm not sure how rich.
I was sorta planning to run it this weekend without a tune, just stick 100 octane in and hope for the best

Mine was the same way. I had to bend the hangers a little but I still have more to bed. I also painted my muffler black with grill spray paint. Looks stock but with a little bigger tip.

This is not what you wanna do with boost. Get that thing retuned. A 3in DP and exhaust plus a bigger A/R will give you a significant increase in power. I gained over 60whp on the same boost level from doing that. Even if you think you are running rich, if you run too rich your EGT temps will be high and your motor will melt faster than a grilled cheese sandwich.
