Default should I put a typeR tranny in my GSR

I' ve desided to leave my '95 GSR N/A. I was thinking about putting a typeR tranny for the shorter gears and the LSD. What are the pros/cons of this swap?

the most important ones are
pros
-a little bit faster
-the lsd
cons
-when youre cruising in 5th gear youll have higher rpms, so itll be a little louder if youve got a loud exhaust

Also for cons is if your tranny is working already, why not just get a much better LSD?

id say $700 or less, if more than that, go with a quaife about $900, the labor charge is prolly the same for a swap or lsd install

Sorry, I'm a B16 hater. Theres nothing wrong with them, but people think B16s are the solution to everything.

Its like some guy could buy a hummer, and you could ask him what hes gonna do with it, and knowing some of you guys, he would say B16 swap with teh awesome B16 tranny wHiCh wE aLl kNoW mAkEs j0o cAr hElLa fAsT y0.

You have half a type r tranny right now.

Your solution is to get a 4.7 final drive and a good lsd.

and shazzzam!!!you have a type r tranny

all i was sayin is that with the prices of ITR tranny's at the moment ranging from anywhere from 900+ used...you COULD just get a b16 tranny used with a new LSD for about the same price...a shorter geared tranny will make a difference with a N/A motor

well the b16 tranny with its shorter gearing would make it a great candidate for someone wanting to get up and go fast.. honda lsds can be had from ebay for less than 300 so if you know how to work on trannys then it would be a economically better choice.. but the final drive on a type r tranny is just so perfect.. I'd still go with the R tranny

yes the type r tranny is perfect...

the B16 trannys are too weak; even for NA. Two of friends have broke b16 trannys on NA motors.

Yet to see a broken itr tranny from NA.

only con is that picking up a new itr tranny is bank$$$ picking up an used tranny is risky since a lot of retards don't know how to focking driving 5 spd and they fock up the synchro, otherwise itr is way better in terms of acceleration, and the LSD is a whole different world,

It would be a good swap for the shorter gears. You might not like it though if your car is daily driven, due to the gas consumption.

Also, make sure you buy from a reputable source. As we all know, ITRs are raced a lot. The trannies have at least some wear due to racing. If they weren't properly maintained, they might not be as good of a deal as you believe.

The pros though are the LSD and shorter gearing for track racing. You'll lose your top speed though.

how possible is it to put a 6 speed tranny on a gsr? to me that extra gear takes out all the disadvantages of lower gearing. from the very first time i drove a civic si i thought "this thing desperately needs a 6th gear"

Not possible.

Unless you spend 12k on a tranny.

The B16 Hydro transmission has the same gear ratio as the Type R early models. Just use the GSR ring and pinion with a Type R LSD and you are set. If you have the money and a good source...get an original Type R and that will be just fine.

i just recently put a itr tranny into my gsr motor last weekend, feels good, i'm happy with it. if u got a vtec contorller you could proabbly just put the vtec higher. i heard some people put a ls 5th into a itr tranny for highway use.

That's a good point. I wasn't really thinking about price...

I actually heard this too, part of the reason why I don't like B16 trannies.
