Remote start to a Manual Tranny
I would like to add a remote start alarm to a 91 wagon lx with a 5 speed tranny. What do I need to bypass to start?
For a little more info it is a valiant remote start/keyless entry. It does not contain an alarm (trust me no one wants to steal this car). But I do want the keyless/remote start features.
Do I need to just remove the clutch switch so that my car does not require the clutch to activate the starter?
I can provide install instruction info upon request if needed but I would like some advice from people with knowledge in this.
I do have some experience with audio/electrical so I am not worried about doing a good job installing this.
Thanks in advance for any info to this and I know I am in trial only because I usually read posts and have not had to ask questions before.

Do you have to cut and run together or could you just remove clutch switch and tie off to the side so that the switch is always hot?
This should be the same right?
I also understand that the car will always start with no clutch but since I never leave my car in gear and my wife doesn't drive it (too ugly) I am not bothered by that aspect.
Thanks for your help and hopefully all others can learn from this too.

its pretty dangerous...a friend of mines left his car in gear and remote started it....it started to move and run down the street...i wouldn't advise it...but goodluck anyways...i have the compustar remote start system in my integra...the alarm makes sure i have the the gear in neutral before letting me remote start...

If the remote start is not for a manual trans., [failsafes] then I would want to install a neutral safety switch.
You do not want to bypass, cut, unplug or anything else to the normal operation of the clutch switch, your R/S should have an "output when running wire" this is the lead that would be used to control a bypass module for a coded ign. key, if you have one, [91 wagon, I don't think so] most Honda/Acuras use a low current neg. (-) trigger for the starter relay, it is supplied by the clutch switch, the R/Ss bypass module control lead is a low current neg. (-) output all you have to do is connect the control lead from the R/S to the output of the clutch switch, that way the clutch is only bypassed when remotely starting the car, please test the clutch switch output to make sure it is a neg. (-) low current output before you wire it, if its anything else, use a relay, trigger the relay with the R/Ss control lead, connect, [parallel] one of the wires of the clutch switch to 30 on relay and the other wire, [again parallel] to 87 of relay.

i've tried that before, just to prove to people id doesnt work if the ebrake is on. it moves about 2-3 inches from where it started from. if you dont put your e-brake on when you park then its a problem, but there's a reason why its also called a parking brake

Parking brake may not hold the car. I never leave my car in gear (92DB2) 2 days after I installed my Rstart I hit the button & did not hear my ehxaust so I looked out the door & my car was up on the curb with the starter turning the tires against curb.
I just added a relay to the Rstart to only jump the clutch switch when it was starting.

These are great suggestions and I thank you for all.
I have not left my car in gear when I parked it since 1992 and always with the e-brake pulled. That is why my e-brake is set to 4 clicks tight. That and I use it so dumb asses behind me don't get the courtesy of a brake check.
I will sleep on these words of wisdom and hope they are comfortable.

IF something can go wrong, it will.
Its not a big deal to install a "fail-safe" switch, about $10 for a good SPDT micro switch w/ long arm and roller on end.

Do you have a link or more info on a switch? I understand the relay part but
long arm and roller?
If not it sounds like I should but this on my 89 accord A/T AKA wife's car and just bite the bullet and buy a better setup for my car with alarm.

You can get the switch at your local electronics supply store, the switch is a common one used for a lot of things, I was told that it was developed as a timing switch for machine guns in planes a long time ago, [so pilots didn't shoot there props off] all I have to ask for is a 12V 2A SPDT micro switch with long arm with roller on end, I always get the same switch.
I would install the unit you have in the wife's car and get a new one for yourself try http://www.compustar.com or http://www.polarstart.com both make remote starts and remote start/alarms for manual transmission cars, the Compustars are at the upper end and the Polar Starts are at the other end, but not at the bottom.

I want to say thanks to all and mostly fcm for all the help.
I decided to install it on the auto and am loving it. Professional grade install in around 3 hours with a crimper, phillips and a test light. Oh yeah and good ole electrical tape with a few zippers.
Having a 89 accord - 1000.00
Having an ancient car with keyless entry - 69.00
The excitement you get starting an old *** car from 2 feet away - Priceless
I will be looking around for a better system with alarm, kill switches, keyless, window operation for my 5 sp. wagon.

hope you get an autostart that will work from more than 2 feet away also.. plus you should've just gotten an autostart made for a manual that way you don't have to worry about running into a building or car because it won't work unless its out of gear.
I put this on an automatic car and it does start from quite a good distance away. It is a figure a speech to stand next to your car and start it. aka lazy mother f^(!er.
