tokico illuminas
i just installed my tokico's but just after a day it sounds like they are clunking in the rear. i triple checked everything when i installed them. everything was tight. is it possible that the strut itself needed to be tighter on the spring?
What springs are you using on them? Are they coil-sleeves like ground-control style? If so, you may need to put some o-rings in between the shock body and the sleeve to prevent it from clanking around. Thats what i did.
Well, the noise isnt coming 'from' your shocks, its the spring banging into the shock body most likely only on big bumps right? Also those are pretty stiff springs so it would make the back of the car ride rough. What settings are the back at? 3?
yea its at 3 right now. now that you mention that i did only notice on this setting. what is an ideal setting for front and rear for just daily driving?
Well right now i have mine set at 5 front and 3 rear, im going to move the front down to 4 because i dont need it at 5 although it does handle good. For comfort i would just go with like 3 front and 2 rear or something like that. See how you like it just mess around with it.

Im not sure, honestly. What you should do is jack up the rear of the car so that the wheels are off the ground and the suspension is drooping. Check the way the springs are sitting on the perches, double check the lower control arm mount and see if there is space there between the lca and the shock fork. On mine it came with some little spacers for that reason but i didnt need them. There is a paper that comes w/ the illuminas that talks about that. Good luck.
I had similar symptoms on my front right Illumina w/Comptech springs. It ended up being that the rubber bushings on the sway bar end-links had worn-out to the point they were allowing the end-links to move just far enough to pop out of the mount hole and pop back in making a banging sound. I put in some Prothane bushings and no more popping sound.
It's one thing to check.
I use 4 front & 5 rear.

I had similar problems as well on the front driver side. What had happened was that On stiffer settings, it seemed like the spring would feel like it popped out of its perch causing it to make a really bad creaking sound, although I checked everything to make sure it was tight. Car drives perfect now. Maybe cause its "broken in". I also replaced the bumpstops. No problems.
well the noise is in the rear and i got brand new bump stops in the rear. i changed my settings on my struts. so we'll see if that helps. ill give it a little while, then see what happens then replace the bushings.
